my niece jovia

September 25, 2007

Born August 24th

These are the first photos I’ve seen of her, looking all tiny and adorable.

And with a very impressive head of hair!

I hope it’s not too long before I get to see her in person.

Well done, Joe and Olivia!

My brother tells me it means happiness in latin. Yes, I like the name too.

She is very cute. Quite the head of hair, indeed.

That’s a clever name, to. (Are here parents really Jo(e) and (Oli)via? Will they have a second child named Olie?

Oh, and congratulations on your aunthood! Are you a first-time aunt?

Congratulations to you, your brother, his wife, and the newborn! Are you close, so that you will be able to see Jovia soon?

I like the etymology for the name. In addition to happiness, it has a divine Jovian cast to it.

No, not a first-time aunt at all. But I’m afraid to actually say publicly how many nieces and nephews I have in case I forget one. I’m reckoning about seven, all girls but one. Within my immediate family.

But it’s also a family that includes foster children and kids from previous marriages so the number is probably higher than that. I just can’t keep up! But I do consider all of them to be my nieces and nephews, no matter what nonsense their parents went through. Which would make for at least three, maybe four, other nephews.

Anyhow, Joe is my ‘baby brother’ and this is his latest offering, and quite a gorgeous little girl she is too. His son Daniel is also quite a beautiful boy, soon turning 14.

And no, I’m not close to them at all, physically speaking, as I’m 3,000 miles away. They are all in Canada and I’m in Spain.

But man, I’d love to be able to pick up little Jovia right now.

When I say, “That’s a clever name, to,” I of course mean “too.” Ugh.(Serves me right for trying to throw in some comments when I should be working.)

Gosh, didn’t even notice that. Probably nobody else did either. So now we can all laugh at you, since you’ve pointed it out? ;)

Hey that’s lovely. I love the one where she is sleeping on ‘dad’s’ chest.

I think the name Jovia is connected to Jove, or the Roman god, Jupiter.

Holst planets’ suite describes Jupiter as ‘the bringer of jollity’.

The spirit of this music is very much in keeping with the astrological significance of Jupiter as the planet of benevolence and generosity. This Jupiter has no thunderbolts to hurtle down on us, but only knowing smiles and a wink or two. He has come down from Olympus to flirt with beauties in the mortal realm and, if flirtation leads to something more, so much the better. We hear him chasing but not catching the ladies. He invites all to dance, then seems not to favour any one of them any more than the others — one of those men who loves all women because they are women and for no other reason.

    Jovia, a female Jupiter. Brilliant!

    Congratulations, Auntie az. :)

Ooops, I just realised, while I accumulated Unclehood to 11, suddenly I’m also Great-Uncle to six. Yikes – does that mean I’m old?

Get over to Canada soon. Before it’s too late. Too-latedness comes upon you suddenly!

so how come you live in spain…..?

Oh, how I used to dread that question, simply because it’s a somewhat long and convoluted answer. Happily I no longer have to dread it as I can now just refer people to this post (question number 1). :)

And yeah, I know that too-latedness comes upon one suddenly, and certainly much more quickly than extra income. There’s a slight chance we might be able to go next year …

    Thanks for that info, Fanny.

I added a pic of Joe & Olivia this morning – no surprise where Jovia gets the HAIR from. :)

Mind you, she also bears some resemblance to this guy …
