phonofone

I was tagged with this musical “me-me” the other day by my friend Blues Shark … on Facebook! Now, as everyone should know by now, I HATE Facebook and only stay there because of a few friends who only do social networking stuff there.  And so I’ve decided to do this here instead. The rules are as follows:

  • Put your iTunes, Windows Media Player, etc. on shuffle.
  • For each question, press the ‘next’ button to get your answer.
  • YOU MUST WRITE DOWN THAT SONG NAME, NO MATTER HOW SILLY IT SOUNDS.
  • Tag…. your turn!

I used my iPod. Some of my “answers” were totally nonsensical, but others were kinda funny. You can see them below …

I preferred the one that picked out the film soundtrack of your life. But I may have a go at this later (when I’m in reach of my iPod).

And I do have to defend Facebook – it’s good for certain things!

No iPod here. I’m curious, just exactly what is Facebook good for other than wasting time?

I use it to keep in touch with a few far flung friends and family. Plus it provides a common IM for different platforms, even within my work building. The company gives tacit approval since they have a page there themselves.

Ah phooey – I had my answer done and pasted before the home computer lost connection. Work computer can’t get youtube. What I use Facebook for? Sharing photos with friends and family. Giving and getting quick updates on my and their status – trivial stuff like new haircuts, bad backs, new motorbikes. And links to other projects. I play Scrabble on it. I watch what all my old Luxembourg crew are up to. It remembers when all my friends birthdays are. I ignore all the poking and sheep throwing, and most invitiations to join groups. Now I’m sure most of what I use it for can be done by other means, but it’s just handy to have it all in the one place

Ya az, I know it can be annoying but if you use it right and the people that are your friends don’t act like they’re 12 it has it’s uses. A lot of people I work with have it open beside them in the control room so I hear who screwed up right after I see it on the boob tube. Plus my youngest is 500 klicks away and it’s the only way I hear from her. Loose networks work to keep in touch with crews I used to work with, who are spread right across the continent. All I can say is it works for me.

Guys, I didn’t mean to put you on the defensive! Just because I hate Facebook doesn’t mean that I think other people shouldn’t like it. In fact, millions and millions apparently do.

What I don’t like about it is that it’s kind of like eating at McDonald’s. It’s a mass-produced, middle-of-the-road social networking system that seems to be aimed at a very young and not very internet savvy market. And I agree that you can pick and choose what to do there and get what you need without all the nonsense, but I personally don’t need it.

I not only have several blogs but I have all the photos that I want to share in my Fotki albums, I use Twitter for little updates that don’t merit a whole blog post, I chat on either Google talk, Yahoo or Skype, and I play scrabble by email. And I find all of these formats far superior and personally preferable to anything Facebook has to offer.

As Bea says, it can be very handy to have this all in one place, but I actually prefer having them separate, especially as I like customising how my pages look and function. They are also easily found on my Netvibes, so that when I want to check things quickly I only have to open one page and everything is there, just like with FB. Except it looks nicer. ;)

Hey you like having things separate!

Like I do with phone, MP3 player, camera etc ;-)

    Nice try, Johnny.

I don’t actually use the camera in my iPhone because I’ve always got my little Casio with me. And I don’t have any music on it – I use my iPod with speakers at home and the shuffle when I’m out or at the gym.

To be honest, as a phone I find the iPhone a bit clunky, but I love being able to check emails and do a bit of surfing
when I’m away from my lifeline laptop.

    I do like this one:

    12. What is your life story?
    The Monster Mash (Bobby Pickett)

This is one I won’t be trying myself, because I don’t have a music collection.

    TRiG. :)

My music collection continues to surprise me as a lot of it consists of stuff given to me by friends. I just gave them my memory stick and said “fill ‘er up, please”. :)
