e-book

ebook

Ever since my Twitter buddy WeeRascal showed up here last spring with most of Sevilla Tapas printed out in his briefcase I’ve been thinking about publishing a small tapas guidebook. And more recently I’ve been thinking that the easiest and cheapest way to start off would be in e-book form. One smallish obstacle … I have no idea how to even start doing this.

What I have found out is that I can write my e-book as a PDF, which meant looking for some free software, and I have  since downloaded OpenOffice.org, though I’m told there are lots of other free applications that will turn almost any document into a PDF.  And so I am going to spend this weekend getting familiar with OpenOffice.

Meanwhile, if anyone out there can offer me any help, advice, info – including on how to publish once I get the book written – I would greatly appreciate it. Oh, and in the simplest terms possible please. If you talk in “the nerd-person” I am sure to get lost.

If you have a lot of text you might consider Lulu or Blurb. If you have a mac you can do dead easy books – I’ve done a few – but I don’t think they have enough of a text option.

I generally like OpenOffice and it’s what I always use. It has a few inefficiencies, though, and I can’t figure out how to get the frickin’ spell checker to work, but other than that, it’s a pretty good program.

I think there will be at least as many photos as text, Nag. Nope, no Mac. Must finish my “mini reviews” on the website first. I’ll also need to add some info on wine and write up some sort of introduction. The rest will just be the bars & restaurants.

You forget I teach English, WC. Don’t need no frickin’ spell checker. ;)

Can’t help, I’m afraid – but wish you all the best for this project. It’s a darn good idea!
