Back in October, after one of the tenants next door abruptly moved back to Ireland due to a bad case of homesickness, I placed a few ads online and one of the responses I got was from a young American woman living in France who was going to be staying in Seville for awhile to do research on ants in Doñana Park (heh, an antomologist). We corresponded back and forth a bit, but in the end a very nice German guy showed up who was interested in taking the room immediately, so it went to him.  Jessica found other accommodation and moved here at the beginning of November, but told me she was still interested in seeing the apartment as Philipp will be going back to Germany at the end of February and her place wasn’t feeling very comfortable.  So we arranged to meet last weekend.

After a tour of the apartment we went out for a couple of tapas and ended up talking all afternoon. I had such a great time that yesterday I thought it would be a nice idea to invite Jessica over for dinner and make my famous pulled pork butties. A wonderful time was had by all and I am happy to have a new friend here in Seville, at least until next summer. Though I’m also going to hook her up with some kids her own age to play with, like the nice folks I’ve met on Twitter and also the Spanish girl who lives next door, Nieves. So losing that tenant actually turned out to be a stroke of luck. Cool, innit?

I always look for the “what’s supposed to happen” when something I had in the works fucks up high wide and handsome.

It’s an interesting exercise to unravel your life backwards and find how many good things go back to some horrid or irritating circumstance.

My life has had plenty of those situations. Even getting cancer has enriched my life in unexpected ways – there are certain experiences I never would have had otherwise. Not saying it was worth it, just saying…

You can always find friends when you look for them, no? Especially with your warmth, az.
