    Cutest cat belly EV-ar.
Why are orange-type cat bellies so much cuter than other colors? I have that one orange feral with a great belly and the rest of the cats are all Meh in the belly department.

    Loki is indecently adorable.

If you turned those sideways. he’d look like he was doing ballet!

And then cats wonder (and get annoyed) when we rub their bellies and put our noses into the belly furr and go all “pffffrrrr” :-D

I have to say that although Loki has no problem biting the hand that feeds him when I rub his belly, when I do the belly “pfffrrr” thing he never tries to attack my face. Though occasionally when we’re in bed and he climbs “Mount Knee” he will sometimes do a freefall thing and end up landing half on my face with claws out. Ouch.

Fair point: I’ve noticed before that the cats whose belly I play with may start biting and scratching the responsible hand, but never the face.

And I’m glad to see I’m not the only one who plays pfffrrr. Hell, I’m sure the ancient Egyptians already used to do that to their own cats ;-)

How can one NOT play “pfffrrr”?? I mean it’s just too tempting, innit?

When it’s written pfffrrr all over a cat’s belly, it is a sin not to play the game. Plus, the cat would be disappointed, and one should always keep on the cat’s good side.

I only tried playing “pffrrr” with Mike once. After I very carefully extracted my face from the suddenly octopuslike embrace which definitely included extended claws, I decided it was probably a bad idea. In fact, I spent a certain amount of time in obeisance to the Catgod apologizing sincerely for my trespass before I could actually perform the extraction safely.

Well, it’s good he’s not camera shy! I’ve played “pfffrrr’ for years with my cats, but never knew what it was called. My wife would be rubbing his armpits with a pose like that!

    • May 24, 2010 11:22 pm

He’s not any kind of shy, that one. I really love it that he’ll cuddle up with anyone who wants to cuddle him, so he would totally go with your wife rubbing his armpits.

Do you think he realises just how well he coordinates with the furnishings?
    :)

I just realized… He’s trying to blend in with the couch!

The last photo… “Damn. She spotted me!”

    • May 24, 2010 11:25 pm

Heh, when I was trying to decide which one I said to the rescue shelter volunteer that the orange one would go best with the decor at home … she thought I was kidding!

Of course, you do have to keep in mind the decor when choosing a pet. The rather overly pneumatic wife of the founder of Corel, Marlen Cowpland has (had?) a little while fluffy dog and a white fluffy carpet. Because they kept almost standing on the dog, they dyed the dog magenta (wouldn’t want to buy a new carpet, would you… easier to dye the dog, right?)
