scanning

Writing this at the hospital … been through the machine once already and am waiting to go through a second time as there is some suspicious “activity” in the pelvic area that they want to re-check.

Back soon! They’re calling me…

[update below...]

It was quite the morning, getting up at 6.30 to make it to the hospital by 8 o’clock. Not that I’d slept much since I first got the news about the PET last week and serious scanxiety set in. Anyhow, got there on time and was called in for the injection of radioactive isotope at 8.30, at which time Nog left me to teach a class. The usual routine is that after the scan I go and have breakfast and then they tell me if I need to go through the machine a second time (only once I haven’t had to, and once the put me through three times!). So I was happy when Pablo showed up to have coffee with me and help me pass the time. He was even wearing a very happy shirt!

When I went back to the nuclear medicine department and was told I’d have to go through again, so I started this blog post on my iPhone to keep me distracted. By this time Nog had got back to the hospital after his class, so he waited for me while I went in a second time.

And I guess you all know the good news by now – NO TENGO NADA! It’s funny how when Isabel first told me I nodded my head, paused, and then asked her “so, there’s nothing?”. To which she replied “that’s what I just said!”, but somehow it just wouldn’t sink in. I still can hardlly believe that I’ve managed to dodge the bullet once again and I have made some serious promises to myself that I plan on keeping. It’s definitely a time for change.

After leaving the hospital I took Nog over to the Vineria San Telmo because I had to do a photo shoot and thought it would be a nice way to celebrate being healthy with a couple of lovely salads.

And now I am running out the door for an evening tapas tour. See you tomorrow!

And thanks so much for being there with me this morning.

Hi Nick and welcome! Great to hear that you’ve been in remission since January – hope you have good news when you see the doctor again. Are you still in Sevilla?

So glad it was evidently good news – presumably the suspicious “activity” in the pelvic area didn’t amount to anything.

  8. June 27, 2011 9:41 pm

    Hurray!

  9. June 27, 2011 9:42 pm

If I had anything going on in my pelvic region it would not just be suspicious… it would be a miracle.

Just home from an extra long and totally enjoyable tapas tour, lying in bed with iPhone catching up on tweets, emails and blogs …. this comment almost made me fall out of bed laughing. :)

Well, I hope that didn’t hurt but I gotta be honest. ;)

This dodging bullets business is getting to be regular occurence, it seems. :-)

Woke up this morning feeling so happy. And after an afternoon and evening of celebrating (free photo shoot lunch and then fab tapas tour yesterday) I am definitely starting my new healthy lifestyle thang. Really just a few simple changes, but important ones. About time!

And it is so great to think about all the work I’ve been doing and how I can keep moving forward with it. I have so many plans and even have tapas tours booked well in advance, and now I know I’ll be able to do them.

Now it’s time to get to the gym before a biz meeting with a prospective client.

    Life is good, guys. :)

I woke up in the middle of the night and now I know why!

    Big happy hugs.

    This is brilliant news!
Was thinking about you most of yesterday. Tried to get onto twitter but it wasn’t co-operating.

Life IS good – don’t beat yourself up too much over these changes – remember, you got to where you are by doing what you have done, so all of those “What if I had . . ?” haven’t stopped you getting this result.

Of course that is not to say don’t make changes, you know what is best for yourself.

  19. June 28, 2011 3:14 pm

I am sooooo happy that the news was good!

    • June 28, 2011 3:22 pm

Thanks Pat. I wish there was a way to share this with you and Jed. To take just enough bullet-dodging random dumb luck to get by and then pass on the rest to you guys.

Don’t forget that I’m always thinking about you.

  20. June 28, 2011 3:48 pm

    GOOD :-)

  21. June 28, 2011 3:52 pm

How wonderfull! When you say you dodged the bullet, I can´t help imagening you as what´s her name in a tight leather outfit in the Matrix. Ah well, with your new healthy lifestyle you´ll be able to wear such an outfit by the next time I´ll be in Seville…

Congratulations! I, personally, would have celebrated with a hot tub full of gin, but if salads are your thing, go for it. They look gorgeous.

I’m so glad to read that you are doing this well. I’ve been concerned about you, and now this worry is turned into happiness. There is a saying in Polish that my grandmother used to use – Shto let (May you live 100 years). That is my wish for you – Shto let!

Hi Steve! What a nice surprise to see you here. Not sure about 100 years, but I’d happily settle for 75. Thanks! :)
