terraza brekky

July 24, 2011

A cool and overcast Sunday morning seemed the perfect moment to have brekky up on the terraza with the laptop (less glare) and the boys. I was a bit nervous about the low swooping birds that kept catching Loki’s attention, but he seemed content to explore every inch of the terraza as if he had never seen it before. And then quick as a flash he was off chasing a dragonfly and almost went “over the top” in the process. My heart still catches just thinking about it. And so he was put back inside, at which point Azar decided he didn’t like being out there without his buddy… but it was fun while it lasted.

Seriously considering  trellises…

We’ve had my brother, his wife, two kids and two dogs here this weekend. After lots of rain last week, the weather yesterday and today has been good enough for us to eat outside too.
No problems with cats in danger of leaping over balconies – just two labradors running amok through my flower beds!
I do like summer – and dogs.

Sounds nice. Especially that you’re finally getting some good summer weather!

Must be dragonfly season. Not only did one almost cause Loki to leap to his death this morning, this guy has been hanging out on my spider plant for most of the afternoon… quite like dragonflies…

I think trellises are an idea whose time has come. Good Lord, that’s a long, springy cat.

I know… even if they are just half a metre higher than the walls then that should discourage any impromptu jumping. It’ll block some of the view, which will be a blessing on one half of the terraza and a shame on the other half. Of course, first I have to find out where the hell to buy trellises and then if I can afford them… it’s a long wall…

Has anyone noticed Loki’s face peeking over the big urn thingy in the lower right-hand corner pic? :)

If it is any help… Benjamin can leap over our fence which is 6″ high. He uses either the railing for the handicapped walkway or the crossbar for the gate to spring from. I don’t tell you this to worry you but to let you know how high he can jump and that you need to be aware of purchase-points when you do put in deterrents. Where there is a will there is a way.

Of course, your situation is different. Benjamin wants to get over the fence to prowl. Loki would likely only be trying to catch something. You would probably only need to trellis up a few feet above the level of the balustrade of your patio. Probably adding some sort of ivy or climbing vegetation will help deter him from jumping up and be attractive.
