Here’s Azar sitting next to me on my comfy chair right now while I sit in the middle of the room with the desk wheeled over so I can use my laptop comfortably. Mostly all moved in now although the place is still a total disaster area, with lots and lots of cleaning and organising to do and a few things to get the landlords to fix…
But it actually felt great waking up this morning in my new home. And I’m so pleased to see the cats all curious about their new surroundings – especially Azar. He’s friskier than I’ve seen him in ages. And Peter also seems a bit recharged, in spite of all the physical work he’s been doing this past week, particularly yesterday.
Just one last bit of “leftovers” to shift over from the old place, and take care of changing over the utilities, and tomorrow I will say goodbye forever to the old casa az.
I thought I was going to miss my old place, but when I left it last night without all my stuff inside I realised that what made it a home was everything I’d put into it. With all that gone it didn’t look so special, just like a place that used to be my home. I’m glad I have the video to remember it fondly, and I will miss the orange trees and the azahar, but there’s so much here to enjoy that I’m sure it’ll all balance out. And anyhow, the orange trees are just five minutes away (and I can also get a small one for my rooftop terrace!).
I have a feeling that living here in a new neighbourhood in this wonderful new apartment is going to be quite an adventure. Earlier today I hung out some clothes to dry in the sun on my terraza and thought … this is home!
We want kitteh photos!

I never noticed that Azar has an upturned nose in profile…

Isn’t his nose just too adorable? Can you see how tiny he is now? He’s lost about half a kilo since last year. I noticed yesterday when I came back with the first load of stuff and went in to visit him… he looked so terrified and was tightly curled up on his duvet. So I sat with him awhile, gave him a good old snibble, and then had to go help with where to put all the moved stuff. But he could hear my voice. So when I came back the second time (with Loki) I saw he’d already figured out how to open the closet door and was sneakily hiding. But Loki soon fished him out and that’s when they both started bonding as adventurers checking out the new place. And they have spent a lot of time today snuggled up together under the duvet – I think this whole moving thing has been exhausting for them too!
Well, off to finish packing up the few leftovers at the old place and give it a quick clean-up…

Has he lived anywhere else other than the old apartment and the streets?

You hung your clothes to dry in the sun? From here this sounds completely surrealistic 😀
Well done! Glad the cats like it there!

I remember drying my clothes in the sun (in the OLD place@) and packing them for the trip home to Canada. When I unpacked the scent tumbled all the memories out, a very wonderful moment.
Enjoy your new place, hopefully I’ll see it in person some day!

Ah, the scent of clothes dryied in the sweet place we just left 🙂 A madeleine moment.

The great thing here is that there is a communal terrace for clothes drying as well as our own private terrace. I would have hung stuff out on the lines of the communal terraza but all the clothes pegs are still at the old place…
Sun and fresh air dried clothes are the best!

Sun? The old people around say that when they were young, their grandparents once saw something called like that. Maybe an Englishman with a tabloid?

OMG, came home to find Azar scooting up the stairs, right past my “barrier”. I actually think he got into position when he heard us coming in, the little sneak. Then he found a little hiding place under one of the stairs … either I’m going to have a heart attack or just leave them to it. I’m not actually worried about Loki. He’s always been a jungle jim kinda cat, and sure enough he’s already found the most dangerous place to leap to and lurk in under the top of the staircase (it’s straight then corners twice). Aaack.
Have to admit the sight of Azar half sliding down the stairs was quite funny – and he seemed to be enjoying it too. I know that tumbling down a few stairs won’t hurt him, but I really have to get those sheer drop spaces properly covered up.
Can’t wait till this place is set up. We are still manoeuvering between piles of boxes and the kitchen isn’t functioning yet, other than to make coffee and sandwiches (yeah I know the cleaners were in on Saturday, but I need to give everything a good scrub too before putting things in the cupboards).
I’m loving it though. I mean, it feels big enough with just the downstairs minus the extra bedroom at the end of the hall… haven’t even begun to enjoy the upstairs and terrace yet!

An exhausting few days & several more to come undoubtedly, but so worthwhile – your new place sounds great & as you’re already thinking of it as home you’ll enjoy making it just that, I’m sure! The worst of the stress should be behind you now – as long as you can earn enough between you to cover your additional costs … give Peter a little nudge from me!!!

I have to say that Peter has been a real trooper throughout the move and doing most of the heavy lifting (I do the organising). But yes, we both need to get more clients happening. My friend Jessica will be moving into the extra room from April-September, which will help out with the first few months. Plus it will be great having her here.
A new life.

Good to get settled! When the cats start feeling home, the house is about to be a home. When I moved over here, my cats spend three days in my bed, to scared to get out. I remember them discovering the stairs. That was good fun.
Love to see the movie of your old home: it’s nice to hear your voice, and I really loved the open windows and the street sounds, that made me feel at home..,
I’ve bought a ticket to Seville on March 17, but the day after I bought it one of my cats turned out to be ill. I’m getting results of tests later today, so I keep my fingers crossed…

Oh no, I hope your cat will be okay and that you’ll be able to make it this time. Azar had a half-hour sneezing fit during the night, which usually means another bout of feline herpes. He’s been so frisky since we moved – both cats love the new place – that I was hoping he’d be well for a long time now. Fingers crossed for both of us.

Will do! I’ll tell about my red monster this afternoon. My colleague suggested that I’ld take a hotelroom at the airport. I have very wise colleagues…
