“It’s been too hard livin’ but I’m afraid to die…”
This isn’t much of a video but it’s the only one I could find of my favourite version of Sam Cooke’s classic, sung by the inimitable Aaron Neville. This is how I’m feeling this weekend. Like a change is coming. Hope it’s a good one!
This song has been in my head since writing yesterday’s post about my northern Spain adventure, remembering that gawd-awful food & travel series of the same name, which also used this as its theme song. The series wouldn’t have been so unbearable if it hadn’t featured La Paltrow as one of the four travelling companions. I mean, why bring some scrawny cranky vegan actress along? Why bring anyone along on a food journey across Spain who DOESN’T EAT JAMÓN???
So I probably won’t be adopting this as my theme song when I do my own travel & food adventure next summer, and anyhow it won’t be a “road trip” as I’ll be taking public transit. But I do love Willie’s braids, don’t you?
In the afternoons here it’s really hard to believe it’s still winter with bright blue skies and warm temperatures. But when night falls it totally feels like February and I reach for my duvet (and the cats). But in just a few short weeks I’ll be back in the sandals again. 🙂
Early this morning I heard my first blackbird of the year! I remember years ago calling them “wonky birds” because of their all-over-the-place song that was never the same twice. Later I found out they were blackbirds. And well, I’d never heard them before I moved to Sevilla and I started looking forward to their annual arrival. So this morning I lay in bed with that sudden feeling of joy listening to my first blackbird as best I could (it’s times like these the double-glazed windows are not so appreciated). And about half an hour ago a blackbird landed on the living room balcony railing right in front of me and perched there for awhile. All I could think was it was a good thing the doors were closed or Luna would have gone over the top…
Anyhow, this is actually one of my favourite White Album songs. Enjoy.
