Which religion is right for you?
Take the quiz and find out! Apparently I’m agnostic. I used to think that agnostics were namby-pamby fence sitters who just couldn’t make up their minds. But after listening to the likes of Margaret Atwood and Salman Rushdie on that wonderful Bill Moyers series Faith and Reason also refer to themselves as agnostics (rather than atheists) I guess I don’t mind keeping company with them.
I’ve never considered myself an atheist anyhow, maybe some sort of pantheist … later on someone on h2g2 coined the term ‘aztheist’ which I rather liked. 😉
Anyhow, just a bit of fun …
You scored as atheism.
You are… an atheist, though you probably already knew this. Also, you probably have several people praying daily for your soul. Instead of simply being “nonreligious,” atheists strongly believe in the lack of existence of a higher being, or God.

This was how my score actually came out:
You are an agnostic. Though it is generally taken that agnostics neither believe nor disbelieve in God, it is possible to be a theist or atheist in addition to anagnostic. Agnostics don’t believe it is possible to prove the existence of God (nor lack thereof). Agnosticism is a philosophy that God’s existence cannot be proven. Some say it is possible to be agnostic and follow a religion; however, one cannot be a devout believer if he or she does not truly believe.

You scored as Islam.
Your beliefs are most similar to those of Islam. Do more research on Islam and possibly consider taking the shahadah and officially becoming a Muslim, if you aren’t already. Despite the actions of some – who go against the teachings of Islam – Islam is a religion of peace; the word “islam” means “peace through submission to God.” “Muslim”means “one who submits to God.” Islam is the third of the three Abrahamic faiths, and it shares much with Judaism in Christianity; its differences are the acceptance of Muhammad as the last and final prophet, and the oneness of God – in other words, that Jesus, though he was a revered prophet, was not in fact God, and only one God exists. Apparently the Taliban could not read (though their name means “students”), because the Qur’an states that men and women are equal as believers, and that all believers should be educated and seek knowledge. Modesty in dress and behavior is required in Islam for both men and women to preserve the values of society and move the emphasis from superificial appearance to intelligence, knowledge, and God.

Interesting result.
Actually this is the second time I’ve done the test. The first time I got atheism and agnostic level top, with Islam third.
Of course, a lot of the questions are ambiguous, and I don’t know how the answers to them are being interpreted.
Christianity and Hinduism don’t seem to be doing too well so far, do they?

I also did the quiz a second time to be able to post my results … first time I was still agnostic but Islam came second. Weird.

I scored 83% buddhist and 79% paganism. Didn’t really notice the rest. And the results are surprisingly close to what I really believe. Perhaps the questions are ambiguous, but religion and matters of faith are often very ambiguous because they are matters of belief.
At any rate, since I have been an actively practicing Wiccan for 20 years now, I was surprised that Buddhism came in first for me. But it wasn’t that far ahead of the paganism score, either.

I’m not surprised at the results, overall, though I’m a bit surprised at the “stanism” result, given that I no more believe in devils than in deities. I suppose the 38% flaky pagan fluff is due to my being vegetarian and my position on animals in relation to humans. Oh, well. Can’t have everything.

I think you know what religion I’m not, test or no.
I started out on it…but kept getting thrown by questions I couldn’t answer. For example:
Jesus, being a prophet, should be respected; however, being a man, not be worshipped.
Should Jesus be respected? Why? Some would say ‘Even if you’re not a Christian, his teachings were valid.’ As far as I can see, his teachings were pretty firmly in the Phariseeic tradition of the time.
Jesus: Not God, just a human being.
We have not one shred of evidence for his existence. He could well have been a composite character – think King Arthur or Robin Hood (or Banksy 😉 )
I’ll have to listen to the Atwood/Rushdie stuff on agnosticism…but I can’t say it makes any sense as a position. Depending on how you look at it ‘god’ is either a stupid fantasy or a meaningless concept.
I like the idea of Noggin being a Muslim Atheist, though. A friend once said:
“I’m a Buddhist…well, an atheist – but it’s the same thing.”
Incidentally, see my recent post on Sharia.

I´m reading an interesting book at the moment. Roughtly translated the title is “what happened on the way to Damascus?”.
The author, Lena Einhorn, presents interesting thoughts about Jesus and Paulus being the same person. Since she is a scientist, MD PhD, she has done extensive reserach to present her opinions.
It´s odd that Jesus is NOT mentioned in historical documents from the time when he was supposed to live. If he was such an important person he should have left any tracks apart from the gospels, written by his followers a long time after his death…

Now come on…I did say I was going to listen. Even when I don’t change my mind, I always enjoy hearing people tell me why I’m wrong.
(In the past, though, I’ve heard Rushdie talk about “the God-shaped hole”, so we’re already in some disagreement).
I’ll also try out the test again – as best I can.

I shall look into that. This is in line with what I said about Jesus being a composite figure. There’s also an Italian guy who’s currently sueing the Catholic church for deception because he reckons he has good evidence that Jesus was one of their 1st Century saints.
Basically, it was a time for prophets and a melting pot of religious ideas – all those gnostic sects where Judaism (in its various sects) rubbed up against Zoroastianism, Greek philosophy, Greco-Buddhism and Egyptian religion. Eventually there was a three-way split between Judaism, Christianity and Manicheism…although there actually is historical evidence for Mani*. But, yes, Saul/Paul certainly distilled what we now think of as Christianity and left his stamp firmly on it. He even describes (in Acts, is it?) his dream in which he finds a compromise between Judaism and the shellfish-eating, non-circumcising religions.

And I promise you I wasn’t trying to fiddle it.
I still have a problem with many of the questions:
Sex is the woman’s right, not the man’s.
Surely they don’t mean does one have a right to it against the wishes of the other? It’s a consensual matter between one or more people in whatever gender combinations one prefers. But it can’t ever be a right. Other than solo sex, it’s either a treat or a duty or a mercantile transaction…
I am the only one who should set rules or restrictions for myself.
I don’t think I gave this a Strong Agree, so I’m surprised my Satinism is so high. I am prepared to accept that, up to a point, my actions are restricted – but not by divine rules.
Women and men are equal in the eyes of God.
I can’t answer that. How about ‘What colour are pixies?’ or ‘Are wombles gay?’ When answering I mentally deleted the last clause.
I try to be in tune with the natural world as much as I can.
Obviously the concept of a ‘natural’ world, as opposed to our normal, manufactured, human world is airy-fairy pagan tosh, so ‘Strongly Disagree’. On the other hand…if they’re talking about a sustainable planet, then it’s ‘Strongly Agree’. But what the fuck does ‘in tune with’ mean
Eating animals is cruel.
Almost certainly. I’m not convinced that it makes it wrong though…although I don’t eat any myself. (I’m planning a tirade against the concept of ‘Animal Rights’ on my blog soon.)
I have a strong belief and trust in myself over anything or one else in this world.
I don’t trust myself. Nor mythical entities.
There should be no images, statues, etc. of God or his messengers.
Statues and paintings are fine. I’ve never seen a decent photo, though.
I am certain that no being higher than humans exists.
I’m guessing they don’t mean (hypothetical) aliens…but I’m struggling with the word ‘higher’.
Oh, I know, I know…I’m taking it waaaaaay too seriously. 😉

I had a minor operation on my scrotum. A couple of weeks later, the area around the stitches felt unusually hard and swollen, so I went to get it checked out. The doctor had a look and said:

I do not give a shit if someone is praying for me…actaually I do: stop it!
I did not get Satanism though.
Overall, a pretty crap quiz based strangely enough, in my opinion, on what the originator sees as virtues etc of various religions and believes.
If you are an athiest you can’t be a bit of any religion.
