What the hell is going on with Lexulous?
There’s a notice that changes are being made, but if so, then why not just shut down for a few hours? Right now I’ve got a game with B’Elana in which she has a different looking board than I do. And in other games I’m not getting the right amount added to my score – a 20 point word gave me 10 points and I only got 25 for a 35 point word. Plus there is one game in which I have 8 tiles. WTF?
May I suggest to my Lexulous pals that we wait until all of these changes have been made and then start new games? Boy, I hope they have this fixed by the weekend, since I won’t be going to Málaga…
I don’t care what the score it, really, I just like the game.
Especially if I win. Who’s turn is it?

It’s kind of an adventure, though, not knowing how it’s scoring. And as long as we’re all getting screwed over equally, I don’t mind playing with wackiness.

Yeah, but it tells me a word is worth 24 points, and then when I play it it only scores 9….

I noticed that too, but want to keep playing the game we’re on. After all, I just got another bingo!

“I just like the game”
Well so do I, but the main idea of the game is placing words where you think you can get the most points. In my game with alejna I played a word for 51 points and then only got 20. 😕
“as long as we’re all getting screwed over equally”
Wlhich can’t be the case, especially if we’re playing on different boards and the scoring on the new boards hasn’t been set up properly.
Anyhow, I’m finally getting the new board show up. Can’t say I like it much (double words so close to quadruple words?), but I guess Lexulous had to change it so it wasn’t exactly like Scrabble.
I still think we should start over…

What a stupid board! You still have to start off in the centre, but you don’t get a double word, or any double points, for doing so. Crap.

Perhaps we should be inundating the makers of Scrabble to stop fucking with the online versions. I mean, how many people who are playing this game on line do not have scrabble boards? I have three, one for travel, one deluxe on a turntable and one the old “classic” fold up flat board.
Are they really losing any money to this online gaming? I think not. and forcing scrabulous out of business and now lexulous too is starting to lose good will towards Official Scrabble, at least on my part.
What about the rest of you?

By “screwed over equally” I meant that the random-seeming point deductions happen for both players. My “41 point” word scored me 12 points. Which admittedly is only a 29 pont loss to your 31 point loss, but I couldn’t tell you why it did either. So it seems at least approximately (though srewily) equitable.

By “srewily” I meant “screwily.” Ugh. Typing one-handed.

You should put your chopstick down, alejna. 😉
The notice from Lexulous at the top of the game says…
I’m guessing Scrabble is leaning on them again so they have to change the board to something that isn’t exactly Scrabble. But, aside from the new board being awful, there are still too many glitches to make playing a game worthwhile.
I don’t think Scrabble would care if people complained, hmh. They got a lot of bad publicity when they got rid of Scrabulous but they still went ahead with it.
Damn!

I can’t say I like the new board and that you have no idea how much you’ll actually score. This is ridiculous, and a slap into all the loyal fans. ‘Minor’ changes? Ha!

Well, I’m sure that Hasbro probably wouldn’t care about complaints, since almost everybody who is complaining has already bought a scrabble game. They aren’t going to lose us as customers since we already are.

We are all speculating as to why this is happening, though it is almost certainly due to legal pressure of some kind by Mattel/Hasbro.
What gets me is that the scrabulous and then lexulous games were both miles better than any of the official Scrabble online or PC based games. So is it also ‘sour grapes’ at work on the part of Mattel/Hasbro?
I won’t play the official versions (though of course I have tried them and have even purchased a PC based game) as they all appear to work as if they are crippled. How can companies who claim to be professional games programmers submit such poorly crafted yet bloated offerings for public consumption.
I hope that the originators of scrabulous manage to win out in the end – the sad thing is that whilst support by ‘feet doing the talking’ is not as powerful as support in a court of law, despite the fact that the greater good should be served by the latter.

Hi Gordon, and welcome! 🙂
I also wondered why Scrabble couldn’t come up with a version that works. I haven’t tried the Facebook version, but I’ve heard that it’s crap, and for some reason they separated it into regions, so that I can’t play a game with anyone who lives in the US or Canada. What’s the point of that?
Meanwhile, the new Lexulous board is simply awful. Even if they fix all the glitches, the layout it very poorly thought out and doesn’t play well.
