Remember the Kindle?
I saw on Twitter the other day that Pauline had ordered a couple of these new Kindle 2 models and, shallow gadget-crazy being that I am, was immediately entranced by the new sleek design. Rather “Apple-ish”, don’t you think? Lucky for me the Kindle is still only available in the US though, as Pauline points out, it is very good for travelling if you “stock up” on books before you go. You can read her blog post for more Kindle information. I’ll just look at the pictures. 🙂

Az, check out the apps for books for your iPhone, especially Stanza and Classics. I’m really happy with my iPod touch experience with those two and especially happy to support Operation Guttenburg. I’m rediscovering the classics and finding some modern stuff that is really mind bending.

forget it…stick to books. When I get a book, I like to flip through it. I smell the fresh ink, or if it’s from the library, the aging paper. I check out the binding. Can it handle my usual abuse. These are like pre-nuptual activities for the reader. Books are wonderful objects. Gadgets are just gadgets. Vanilla. Plain.
Gumby could go into any book. Do you think Gumby could go into a gadget? No way. The Blockheads would get him and Goo would be sad.

They ARE books. They even have page turning sounds. 🙂

Gadget freaks can have ’em. I hope there will always be a market for words printed on paper, so you can make those page-turning sounds yourself.

I think these things are perfect for those books that aren’ t really worth killing a tree for (and we all know we read some like that). Instant paperbacks about the news, beach books, Deepak Chopra’s latest…

As much as I love my iPhone (now called Pippin, btw) I cannot imagine reading a book on it, zoomer. I almost went cross-eyed trying to edit a blog post on it yesterday.
I think the Kindle would be great for travelling, making it a rather expensive ‘luxury gadget’ for me, since I don’t travel very often. Love the new look though.
Sledpress … ha! 🙂
