I wonder if this means Loki’s voice will remain cute & tiny…
Vet appointment at 10.30 this morning.
Still think I should get a discount as Loki only has one cojone.
[update: back home photo below links]
Loki back home and recovering in a sunbeam.

If our experience was anything to go by, one cojone means extra cost, aggro and kitteh stress. With our two it meant going ‘digging’ because the undescended cojones can hide in the abdomen or elsewhere, which meant extra (ie total) aneasthetic and the wearing of space helmets for a week.
Just as a warning.

Eep! I sure hope it doesn’t turn out to be complicated. Azar was in & out and they didn’t even use any stitches. I can’t see Loki doing well in a space helmet. Anyhow, l was given a price and will just tell her l can’t pay more. If l’d taken an older cat from the shelter the castration would have been included in the fee.
The hard part right now is the fasting. Loki had to stop eating yesterday evening and now I’ve also had to hide the water bowl. Poor guy doesn’t understand why he’s not getting any brekky. Which is why I’m still in bed (on the iPhone). As soon as I get up and feed Azar he is really going to feel left out, so am trying to put that off. But I think they both know that something is up because it’s 7.15 and they usually have breakfast at 6.30.
Loki is in the bathroom making WTF? noises … think he’s just discovered the missing water bowl. I can tell it’s going to be a long morning.

Oh, I can just see Loki in a space helmet. (I hope they are able to do the job easily — you can just see his face — “But Mom, I was using those!”)

I just hope it makes him less aggressive. These days I have to shut Loki in the livingroom when both Nog & I are out so he doesn’t hurt Azar. Am keeping his claws clipped but he could still get Azar in the windpipe deathgrip, which seems to be one of his favourite “games” of late.
Uh oh, I just heard Nog getting up. Now the no brekky thing is about to heat up.

That has always been the tough part at my house. Apricat, when he found he was being denied breakfast, marched right up to the bedroom and peed in my ex-husband’s loafers.

Heh, that sounds like something Azar would do (actually has done, as my friend Lizzie knows from personal experience). But it only took Azar coming out to have a snack to finally wake Loki from his druggy stupour. FOOD! I gave him some special paté for kittehs recuperating from ops or illnesses and he practically inhaled it… so he’s back on his biccys and is very happy.
Less than four hours after getting home he’s leaping up onto his favourite places and wanting to play.
Yolanda was shocked to see him – the runt of the litter, remember?

I know a former cat runt that now weighs 19 pounds.

Poor Loki. I remember when I had Benjamin done, He dragged his bum on the carpet. I guess because it itches where the incisions were.
My Mom’s vet used to come to the house to do all but complicated surgery. I used to help him while he did the neutering on the top of the dishwasher…

I just updated the post with a photo of Loki recovering in a sunbeam. Everything went well. Yolanda the vet said she didn’t have any trouble finding the other cojone so there were no complications. And he has internal dissolving stitches so I won’t have to take him back, and there is no worry of him tearing them out (so no space helmet).
He’s still pretty drowsy, poor lamb, but managed to stagger out of the cat carrier on his own and find a sunbeam. Luckily I am home all afternoon and Nog can stay with Loki when I go out this evening. He’s been given shots for today and Yolanda gave me an anti-biotic and painkiller to inject over the next couple of days.
As we had to wait around for about an hour and a half I thought it would be a good idea to get my hair cut, thinking it would be cheaper out in the ‘burbs. And it was, so I did, but whoah! It’s really shorter than I’d asked for, Ah well. Haircut was way overdue and now it’s done.
Off to cuddle the patient …

Best regards to Loki. Glad it all went well.
So, if your hair is too short does that mean you will can wait longer to get it cut again?

I actually needed/wanted to get it cut about five months ago – haven’t left it this long for ages. So there’s never any real timetable, but it would be best if I had it cut every 3-4 months.

He is one gorgeous kitteh, Az. I would never have pegged him as an aggressive little guy from that top picture, but looks are deceiving! I hope the snip snip makes him less aggressive, too. Not good that he’s attacking Azar…

Well it’s now after midnight and the Lokster is tearing around the apartment like a maniac with one of his paper balls … safe to say he’s feeling okay now.
I had a great evening out with Victoria, going to a couple of bars I’d recommended with her wines.
Haircut is not looking too bad either.
All in all, quite a good day. 🙂

Glad it all went well. Gosh, he’s getting really big isn’t he?
That sunbeam looks good, too…

Very big. Weighs five kilos now and is actually longer and taller than Azar. Vet has given me special food for castrated males so he doesn’t put on weight. He’s got a little pot belly already, though he’s quite lanky everywhere else. I told the vet he’s not overeating because I measure out his food every day, and she said it was most likely a genetic thing, but important that he doesn’t become too fat.
Scary to think that he hasn’t stopped growing yet – look at the size of those paws!

Funny how cats get over theirs in a few hours and most men take months (if they ever recover…). 😉

Humans in general, I think. That time Lua fell three floors and broke her hip she was back to leaping up onto tables and countertops in a couple of weeks. Amazing healers.
Yeah, I don’t think I even need to give Loki the painkiller injection today. Though he should take the anti-biotics as a prevention.

Glad it worked out ok for the little guy.
Ours beat each other up on a regular basis, and both are capable of giving as good as they get, so we tend not to bother intervening, even though Foley is now quite a bit smaller than his hulking brother.

My main worry is that windpipe death grip and that Azar can’t fight him off very well because of his bendy paw. Though I think my constant intervening has turned Azar into a bit of a cry-wolfer.

Have you thought about getting Azar a spiky collar? They actually evolved for dogfights, to protect the dogs from one another. Should work.

Or maybe just shove his head through a donut brillo pad? That oughtta work too.

So funny…just yesterday I was looking up kitties who look just like Loki to adopt in Chicago. The ears! The stripes! The tail that looks like it was dipped in whipping cream! Adorable.

Hello and welcome! I have to say that Loki was quite the find, and yeah, pretty adorable. He is the master of mischief & mayhem whilst sporting the most INNOCENT “who me?” look on his wee stripy face. Also totally obsessed with water …
Good luck with finding yours. Just had a look at your twitter page and Caramellow looks very Loki-like. Though the bit on the file that says “Claws: Yes” makes me cringe. Just because it sounds like an option.
