Today’s Photohunt theme is “closed”.
This gorgeous old Sevilla landmark – the Alfonso XIII Hotel – is going to be closed for a year while they do extensive renovations. It’ll be strange to see it all shut up and covered in scaffolding, but it’s actually in need of a make-over and I’m already looking forward to seeing what changes they are going to make.

So there is still a property developer that hasn’t run out of funds….

What?! What a pity it will be closed! But probably good there will be renovations!

At least they are renovating and not simply tearing it down. We’ve lost too many heritage buildings, here, when property owners, including the National Capital Commission (the very people who are supposed to be saving our heritage), allow the properties to deteriorate to the point where they have to be torn down.

So many old palaces and houses were torn down here during the Franco era. These days builders either have to maintain the original façade of buildings inside the old city walls or, if it’s too damaged to save, they have to rebuild the façade exactly as it was.
I’m sure the Alfonso XIII is going to be much improved in terms of modern facilities while maintaining all the beautiful architectural features.
