Yesterday I made a fabulous (if I say so myself) lunch for my friend Del (aka @WeeRascal) who was in town from Scotland for a few days of much-needed sunshine. It was a beautiful day so we sat out on the terraza and, after Del left, it felt too nice up there to come back inside. So Nog and I decided it would be a good time to let the boys come out and see what they made of the “great outdoors”. We kept a sharp eye on them, especially on Loki, and also kept an eye out for Pérez, who thankfully didn’t show up. Anyhow, they were out there for about half an hour and really loved it.

Other than the threat of Pérez turning up and ripping the boys to shreds, I’d feel quite fine about letting Azar go out on his own. I know he wouldn’t try leaping over the wall, though I’m not sure about Loki. But at least they can get out from time to time for a bit of fresh air.

The Lair Cats are very envious. Our balcony is not kitteh friendly at the moment.
#2 has promised to do some necessary modifications, butwhen>/b> remains to be seen. He’s much like his Dad, lot’s of promises but little is done…

Good to see the boys enjoying their new outdoor space … I like the plants in containers/pots, too. We’ve lost a number of ours because of the hard winter we had – both plants and pots – but it’s a bit early in the year (here) to replace them as yet!

Azar looks slightly alarmed at whatever is in the taller pot.

I do let Juno out on the front deck for a bit of a sniff around because she must get bored of sniffing around the house. I keep a very close eye on her and if she ventures of the deck I grab her immediately.

looks lovely! But I think you’re right to be cautious – one of the girls in my office’s kitten just fell/jumped from their third story balcony and has broken her back leg 😦

Unfortunately this is also going to be a problem on my balconies. There’s really no way they could accidently fall off, but if a bird landed on the balcony railing it’s very possible that Loki would “go over the top” (not too concerned about Azar – he’s too old and blind to do much about birds). I considered putting that angled plastic mesh up again, but have been trusting to luck so far.
On the terraza the biggest real danger is Pérez coming over and beating the crap out of my guys. Plus there’s one low wall where Loki could get over to the terraza next door. I could put up some mesh to prevent the latter, but Pérez has all kinds of ways of finding his way over here.

Here’s the thing. My house is resting on granite, I hope, on the side of a mountain. It is on a granite outcrop. If I walk up to the top of my ‘garden’, I can look over the top of the house roof.
There is a granite wall between the house and the top of the garden. It is 5 metres high. The cat loves the top of that wall. It is somewhere to relax in the sun. Cats love being high (sorry, if you are a user) AND ABLE TO LOOK DOWN ON THE WORLD. They love being safe and warm. Height is part of that.
