thwarted kittehs
At least I bloody well hope so! Honestly, it was scary enough when Luna started climbing the balcony railings, but when eensy Morcilla followed suit (copycat!) there was nothing to be done but shut all the balcony doors until a solution could be found. Then I took Morcilla to Málaga for two weeks in July thinking that I’d sort something out when I got back. Well, the only thing I could think of was getting some sort of plexiglass stuff to put up – something the girls couldn’t get their claws into – but I couldn’t find anything like that. Then one day I noticed all three beasts quite happily sitting in the upstairs window, getting a bit of fresh air (poor darlings!) and I realised it was not only because it was covered top-to-bottom in ugly plastic mesh, but also because they had tried several times to GET OUT and had finally given up. So hey!

I hatched a new plan to not only cover the entire balcony railings in mesh but also add a “top layer” preventing the cats from climbing over the top. Yes, this means that I actually cannot stand out on my own balcony anymore, but wtf. At least I can now open the balcony doors in the morning and let some fresh air in. I’m telling ya, August was HELL.

So far the girls keep trying to climb up, but once their noses hit the mesh on top they get confused and, as the top layer is quite floppy, they can’t grab hold of it. It will soon be too cold to open the windows and balcony doors at all, but oh man, I am so happy that – so far – this solucion appears to be working. And maybe – just maybe – next spring these two girls won’t feel so inclined to climb everything in sight.
