When I go to London in May I will be staying in a new (for me) part of town – Clapton. At first glance it looked a bit further out than the “usual” place in Wapping, but in fact it is very accessible and I have three main bus routes that should take me pretty much everywhere I will want to go – including the event at the Spanish Embassy. And there is also a night bus that takes me straight home.
Because I was waylaid by panic attacks when I was there in 2015 I was already getting nervous about meeting friends, even though I’m not going until mid-May. But upon discovering these bus routes I feel much more reassured, and it means I shouldn’t have to take the tube (bonus!).
I just had a minor panic on your behalf but it’s OK. When I first read this I thought “Clapton is way out, it’s in Essex”. Nope, that’s Clapton on Sea, phew. I never know there was a Clapton actually in London itself – & I lived there for 6½ years!
When you were last in London were Oyster Cards a thing? My sister-in-law, whose family is in Dagenham, has mentioned before that you can’t use cash on a bus these days, you have to use either an oyster card or contactless payment. You probably already know all this but I’m a worrier so had to mention it anyway š

Yes! I have an oyster card and I know how to use it. š
I was told that contactless cards don’t work outside your own country (???).
Oh, never worry about giving me advice I may not need. Because you never know what I don’t know, and neither do I.
