I remember when I first moved here and being thrilled to find that there was a Marks & Spencer right next to the main El Corte Inglés. After more than a year in beautiful but eensy Salamanca this felt like the height of cosmopolitan sophistication. Ever since my Toronto days M&S was always THE place for underwear and also comfy clothing in general. Sadly the M&S closed here after a few years and then I used to actually plan trips to Gibraltar to stock up. Then came online shopping – bliss! – and I had a steady supply of knickers and bras at my fingertips. But I dunno… the past few years both quality and selection has suffered, to the point where this week I was actually forced to go out and shop for new bras locally (!!!).
El Corte Inglés of course. Simply because I can take stuff home to try on and return it no questions asked. It was pretty slim pickings there too as I was looking for non-underwired but eventually a helpful salesperson showed me this one and I was sold. Front closure is a bit of a faff but once it’s on… wow, talk about comfortable. Bought one black, one cream and now I’m set for the summer. Sorry to see M&S go, but it seems to have gone the cheap “fast fashion” route, not for me.
Ugh, story of my life. For me it’ pullover athletic bras and Rio briefs (the kind that are cut away up to the waistband in front). Every year it’s gotten harder to find a sport bra that doesn’t seem to be made out of repurposed soda bottles, like a shopping bag, leaving me sweaty and welted where it rubs. What happened to fecking cotton? Or sport bras that actually squish you in place so you don’t boing, unless you want to spend what I clear in a single client session?
Well I finally came across something on Amazon that’s some kind of brushed microfiber that doesn’t break me out, and squashes me properly, and have just bought nine of them because who knows how long they’ll stay around, and I can sweat up two in a day. I’ve come to hate giving more money to Amazon, but there it is.
Perhaps a small issue in the state of the world right now but if we’re going straight to Hell at least we can do it without bouncing uncomfortably.

Oh god yes, the high-cut knickers! Love them, and so far still have a good M&S supply. Cotton. Not sure where else I could find them tbh.
I normally can’t do pullovers, other than my house bras, which are basically super minimal support but enough for around the house. Even when skinny I’m too broad across the beam for a one-size option. Extra big rib cage? Who knows. Anyhow, this new one squishes just enough and has a cross-over back panel that feels so much more comfortable than just the usual straps.
