Murdoch cancels OJ Simpson plans
It’s not often people overestimate the bad taste of the public, but happily Murdoch was wrong and there are still some levels to which they won’t stoop.
I honestly could not believe that they planned to publish that book, but it did not surprise me that much. Actually, what shocked me was that after they had gone through all the prepublishing work and rationalization, that FOX actually backed down and decided not to. I haven’t noticed FOX and Murdoch being all that sensitive to the public’s reactions, just out for Money. Maybe they decided that they weren’t going to make any money off this offering.

Ultimately both the original decision to publish, and its reversal, will have been motivated by financial considerations. In the latter case especially if there was pressure from advertisers and sponsors. Good taste and a sense of responsibility to the general welfare have never been hallmarks of the Murdoch empire.

US turns on Murdoch
“Even some of the biggest media names in Murdoch’s own empire have joined the fray, though the cynical might interpret that as a clever media ploy to have one’s cake and eat it.
Bill O’Reilly, the conservative and outspoken anchor of a talk show on Fox News, called for a boycott of advertisers who buy ad space during the two-hour long interview. Another Fox star, Geraldo Rivera, famous for his patriotic stance on the war on terror, declared that the Simpson deal was ‘appalling’ and vowed to oppose it.”

I have to agree with noggin … I think that it didn’t have anything to do with morals and values. The reversal is to do with money.
But wow … how arrogant is OJ.
And what’s up with Kramer? Did you hear about the racial rant in his comedy act? So disappointing.

Clearly it was all to do with MONEY. At first the Murdoch group thought they were going to make piles of the stuff with this sensational new book and the tv interview because they thought the public was going to eat this stuff up with a spoon. Turned out they were wrong.
I was just pleasantly surprised that for once public opinion didn’t just go for the usual lowest common denominator sensationalist crap. That there was in fact a limit. Gave me a bit of hope.

The title of the book was “If I Did It” right? Presumably it wasn’t “This is how I did it” b/c that would amount to a confession …but isn’t the “If I Did It” enough to “re-open” the case?
