Any idea what this is? (click to enlarge)
They keep showing up at casa az and I’ve always wondered what the heck sort of bug they are. Very difficult to get a good close-up with my camera. It’s quite small, just over 1 cm in length. It flies and its jointed back-end reminds me of a wasp as when the bug is stationary it wiggles its back-end about and it looks as if it might have a stinger, though as far as I know I’ve never been stung by one.
Can anyone out there name that bug?

Sorry, I cannot name the bug. Ew. Here it is stink bug season and they’re all trying to come indoors. They’re harmless but large and kinda slow, and they fly if forced. Yuck.

I know you’re in Spain, but here is a site you might possibly get some info from. You can email in a picture and someone tries to ID the bug for you.

Okay, I’ll check that out, WC.
I’ve always found these bugs quite interesting, almost ‘elegant’ with the long legs, especially the back ones.
Also have to say I’m very happy to report that we haven’t seen any … gaaaaaaaa! cockroaches … since before the summer. Not sure why as summer is usually the only time we find them in the house. Though the other night when Nog and I were coming home there was the usual group of people hanging out in front of our building and sitting on the doorstep drinking beer. And suddenly one girl stood up and went gaaa! while a massive roach scuttled out from where she’d been sitting. Her friend did the macho thing and stamped all over it while Nog and I made our way inside (much easier with everyone standing up like that).

those long hindlegs look kinda like what crickets have, but cricket’s legs are usually bent, so they can jump. So I’ve no idea about your exotic European-sects!

Alas … Casa Az is, like the Amish, going buggy.
Sorry … that comment wasn’t quite cricket.
Joking aside, I believe its name is “Frank”. At least, it looks like a Frank to me …

But I find very interesting the site Wandering Coyote recommends you.

Okay … fixed. Have no idea why that happened.
Meanwhile someone seems to have hacked into one of my other blogs and left strange messages, using my email address and my website … the curious thing is that the avatar showed up, which can only happen if you are logged in to WordPress. Creepy..?

Maybe Frank the not-quite cricket is in your computer, too?

After a quick look at one of Ed’s links I’d go for some sort of cricket – the legs are bent, but not as much as they are in grasshoppers.
So not John, Paul, George or Ringo then. Or Alexander.
