cat-role-reversal.jpg

There’s been odd cat behaviour going on at casa az lately.

Some of you may recall the cat fights that resulted from playing a video of fighting cats on my computer – gosh, almost a year ago now. This ended up with my two boys – previously best mates – becoming territorial enemies and not being able to be in the same room together for almost six months. Since then they seem to have calmed down and have accepted each other again, though they still don’t snuggle up together like they used to.

During the cat fight period Sunny was the aggressive one, though most of the time he seemed as scared as Azar when he would suddenly attack – almost as if a button had been pushed and he was doing it against his will. So I was very relieved to see them finally getting along together again and even play-fighting from time to time (without a horrible battle ensuing).

But about two weeks ago this started changing again. I noticed Azar starting to pick more serious fights with Sunny, approaching him while he was asleep and behaving in an ‘in-yer-face’ threatening manner, and I thought … wtf?

I really don’t get it. I mean, Azar seemed like the ‘victim’ all throughout the ‘pee wars’ and so appeared to be quite content later on when things settled down again. But it’s like there’s a role reversal happening, which is really stupid on Azar’s part because Sunny outweighs him by almost 2 kilos and also has the use of both his front paws and claws (Azar’s left front leg looks like this). In fact, the other day Azar had a huge gash over his left eye from one of these spats (that he’d started!) so I honestly don’t know why he has started behaving like this.

Any ideas?
