In more ways than one. . .
So it wasn’t just a hangover! It turns out that the sore throat/infection I got after getting back from Tavira a couple of weeks ago never fully went away. I’m sure that last week’s debaucheries didn’t help matters, but by Monday I was waking up soaking wet and had a horrible hacking cough that was very hard to stop once it got started.
Of course, not being a man, I tried going about my normal routine (yoga on Monday and my usual classes), and on Tuesday morning I very stupidly went out in the pouring rain to my class with Carmen. Got home totally drenched and spent the rest of the day coughing myself almost inside-out, so by the end of the day my ribs felt like they’d been run over by a bus.
Got wise yesterday and called my doctor/friend/student guspemar to ask him to recommend something for my cough and ended up spending the rest of the day on my sofa unable to operate any heavy machinery (not sure what exactly is in that cough syrup but it sure works!). And since it’s been pissing down nonstop all week (pity for all of those going to Feria) it’s actually perfect stay-at-home weather. At least I don’t feel like I’m missing out on anything.
And so the moral of the story is … when you feel like crap take care of yourself before you end up hacking your insides out. I’m really not very good at being sick.

And that’s exactly what I’m doing – off work til the 16th.
Hope you get through it soon. 🙂

It sounds like you didn’t take care of yourself even more than I didn’t, ian. Or at least, I had more fun. 😉
I used to go by that old doctor’s saying: If you stay in bed, drink plenty of liquids and take aspirin, your cold will get better in seven days; if you don’t it will last a week.
However, I think staying out late and having three hangover producing ‘episodes’ in one week (a personal record) seriously counts as not taking care of oneself.
I also cancelled my class this morning with Carmen, which was the right thing to do because, thanks to that cough syrup, I had a fabulous long sleep. ‘Luckily’, I have no more classes this week (and had none yesterday) because of Feria. Well, lucky in that I’m not losing money since I’m already not getting paid this week.
I reckon this is my annual Christmas cold catching up with me.

There’s not much you can do to make a cold better, but there are plenty of ways of making one worse. Best to avoid them while you have the chance. Get better soon.

Nothing worse than a code id de dose. Especially if it was brought on by self abuse – no no no! I mean by abusing your body. noooo – Actually I mean by —
Oh Forgettit – get well soon – like in around seven days – or a week, whichever is the shorter 🙂

Yeah well, I blame hmh … and also those ladies who got me lunched.
It’s actually kinda nice to sit around in pj’s and feel totally justified in doing nothing at all … couldn’t take seven days of it though, even with this fabulous cough syrup.

actually – I am really, really concerned that you have developed a case of popcorn lung. think about it – you have zapped enough Orville’s to destroy a microwave plate!
and to think that I contributed to your malady by smuggling dozens of lung-destroying packages across the border…

Oi! I wasn’t going to mention the microwave plate until tomorrow! 🙂
Well, it’s either that or the cuss-o-meter…
Tch, it can’t be popcorn lung. I’ve only had Orville’s back in my life for a couple of months, if that. And I was away in Portugal for four days. And I’ve only asked the neighbours twice this week if I could pop some Orville’s at their place. Eep!

You’re doing the right thing, your body will thank you 🙂 just thing of all those little white blood cells, frantically rushing around inside you, valiantly fighting off the nasty invaders… must be exhausting, I’d lie down on the sofa in your PJ’s and eat popcorn if I were you, you need to keep your strength up! 🙂
Get well soon!

I know you’re right, truce and daisy, but I’m almost frantic with boredom. And I’ve hated having to miss pilates and yoga all week. I was thinking of going to yoga this morning and just taking it easy there, but when I went on Monday I think I really disrupted the ‘ambientation’ with all my coughing and hacking.
Maybe I’m supposed to be learning something from this experience? Like patience and moderation and other boring crap like that? Because for me, the only thing wrong with immediate gratification is that it takes too long.

It probably was my fault! Or someone’s. Jim has got a terrible cold right now, and we were wondering where it came from. Personally, I think (due to the timing of its onset) that he probably picked it up in Lisbon. I am NOT going to blame you!!
So sorry you are not feeling well, though. I can relate to the hangover episodes. I drank more last month than I usually do in about 9 months. Man, was it ever a blast!
I am working on a post.
