Back in March I started using Safari as my back-up browser. But over the months I’ve been very frustrated at how very very s-l-o-w it is and so the other day I checked out Google Chrome. And I love it! It’s fast fast fast and has lots of coolisimo features. And casa az looks good on it too.
I still prefer Firefox and will continue to use it as my primary browser, but it’s fun having other options and set-ups.
Is there anybody out there still using IE?
What is this IE of which you speak?

I only use IE for certain things, like Facebook, because some of the stuff I use on FB doesn’t work with FF. Otherwise, I use FF, but I did use Chrome once when it first came out. I should give it another whirl.

I have IE and Opera on my computer because I used to build web pages, and I would check that they displayed properly in all browsers. Mostly I stick to Firefox, but the lastest edition has been giving me heartburn. But it’s still better than the other two. I’m hoping the glitches will be fixed in 3.1.

I only use IE for the sites that don’t operate properly in real browsers. Like, this CAHAN thing I started working with –
http://cahan.ca.gov will ONLY work with IE if you want to log in. B*stards. I gave them grief for it at my training last week and they said “We are working on making it cross–browser compliant for the next iteration.” We’ll see.
I like Chrome, too, but probably am only using it because Firefox 3.0x has been making me nuts. I feel your pain, SS.
I tried Safari for awhile but I dislike Apple’s update techniques.

I guess we are using Safari since it is what is on the computer we just bought. I haven’t noticed it is slow at all. maybe it is only slow when combined with windows.

Like others, I use IE for things that won’t work on FireFox (including downloading using RealPlayer which for some reason, FireFox NEVER includes in its new updates, and for work. I tried using FireFox and I ended up with things spread all over my screen and duplicate and even triplicate images of my documents open in the same window….
I can NEVER get my Fotki or Facebook uploaders to work at all in Firefox.
I won’t be switching to Chrome because 1) I understand that there are still security issues and 2) I didn’t like the proprietary things you have to put up with. Especially since I have to use my computer for work and it has to be secure.
I am happy with Firefox.

i use Safari on my mac and love it. I did try Firefox a while back, but I couldn’t see that it delivered any real benefits. I’ll check out Google Chrome, thanks for the tip 🙂

I use FF, with the IE tab extension — problem links (sites whose current iterations are not cross-browser compliant 🙂 ) I open in an IE tab. And if it still doesn’t work, I don’t usually bother going there.
Although, I will switch browsers (yes, back to IE) for some game sites!

I use Opera for very nearly everything – unless something won’t display, when I go back to IE. (I’ve found Opera is usually better at displaying things than FF, so see no reason to keep that around.)

It’s curious how different people have different experiences with the same browser. For example, I have no problem with my Fotki uploader on FF. Likewise I haven’t experienced any problems with the most recent FF. Weird.
I tried Opera once but found it awkward to use. Mind you, that was about five years ago. But for now I’m happy with FF and GC.

Google Chrome is entirely open source, so I don’t know what proprietary issues you’re worried about, Anneke.
My only problem with Chrome is that it isn’t yet available for Linux. (Nor is IE, of course, and I haven’t checked for Safari.) I use FF mainly, and Opera occasionally.
(I was trying to post on your “mixed messages” post, and it wouldn’t go through. But when I tried again it told me it detected duplicate content.)

Since I’m using a “new” old laptop now, running XP, I’m stuck with my ISP’s browser, and IE. Honestly, this isn’t much improvement over my really old laptop (which is being retired due to a disintegrating hinge on the cover, currently being held in place by a binder clop!). It’s almost as slow, and I’m getting a buttload of runtime error messages when I’m trying to load pages. Sigh.
I’m looking forward to switching back to FF and giving Google Chrome a whirl, when I can upgrade to a faster, more recent laptop.

Actually, that would be binder CLIP that’s holding the screen together, don’t know what a clop is…
