So there I was yesterday morning … had just finished my FIRST NEW CLASS with a very charming friend of Agustín’s, and was working on my friend Lizzie’s new Twitter page for her fabulous Folk House Cafe & Bar in Bristol, when the doorbell rang and the postman said he had a package for me. I had no idea what it might be and was really taken by surprise when I saw it was from one of my oldest & dearest friends from Toronto, Darlene – and also her beautiful daughter Adrienne. So I opened it up and saw it was a whole whack of small blue-ribboned prezzies wrapped in yellow tissue paper, with good old Halloween kisses used for filler. It was hard not to cry, so I did. But you know, happy tears. I’d talked with Darlene on Skype during the summer, and just this week was thinking that I should send her a quick email so she’d know I was still thinking about her – and it turned out she’d also been thinking about me! Anyhow, if you want to see what was in the little packets, have a look below…

evernote or remember the milk?

evernote milk
Another cry for geeky help today.

Recently these two online “to do list” and task management web apps have come to my attention. And well, you know how much I love lists, and also how I need extra help these days getting myself organised, so I had a look at both of them. At first glance it’s hard to see if one is better for me than the other, so I thought I’d ask if anyone here is using either of them and if you have a preference.

One person I know using Remember The Milk said it was tricky getting to know the layout and how to use it, but after that she thought it was very helpful. My main concern is that it uses Google Gears, which I had to uninstall from my computers awhile back because it was causing problems (though now I don’t remember exactly what … interfering with some other programmes).

Both also have iPhone apps, which would be useful for me. But before I spend a few hours “getting organised” I would like to have a better idea about which app would be best for me. So … feedback? Pros & cons? Help?

hostgator or bluehost?

bluehost-vs-hostgator

I could use a bit of geeky help.

I have been using BlueHost for my azahar-sevilla.com domain (which includes Sevilla Tapas) for two years now, and within two weeks I have to renew my contract. Or not. Last weekend I got a text message on my mobile phone informing me that the credit card payment had already gone through and, when I saw the amount, I got in touch with BlueHost and asked why I was being charged $8.95 a month when they are giving new customers a $3.95 a month special offer. And thus began my foray into searching for a new hosting service…

The name that kept coming up on Twitter, and by people I know in RL, was HostGator. So I checked them out and, while they wouldn’t end up being much cheaper ($7.95 a month, though on the same special offer it is apparently $6.95 for new customers), they seem to be very strongly recommended on their customer service. And to me that is quite important. They will also move all your stuff over for you from another host, which is also important to me, especially as I’ve been trying to move azahar natural clothing over to BlueHost for two years and haven’t been able to figure out how to do this. BlueHost doesn’t offer this service and the fellow who designed the page keeps telling me it’s easy but hasn’t offered to help.

So if you have any knowledge of or experience with either of these hosting sites I would appreciate any feedback and advice … thanks!

cadiz

Found this over at Nag on the Lake yesterday and just loved it – a photo essay done by the Telegraph on the twenty oldest continually inhabited cities in the world. And look – there’s Cádiz at number 19!  For more modern pics of Cádiz you can have a look here.

I want to go to Byblos!
Where would you like to go?

This film was created to celebrate the release of the first Simon’s Cat book.
It brings to life one of the sketches from within its pages.
