… well, I hope that it’s “just a cold”.
I went to bed for a siesta yesterday afternoon, feeling fine, and woke up 40 minutes later with a tightness in my chest and achy arms and legs. Damn. It got progressively worse throughout the evening, but I got through my two evening classes okay and then curled up with some hot tea. I think I mentioned earlier that I only had three classes this week because one of my students – a doctor – is away doing some volunteer work in Nicaragua. And it turned out that all three classes were yesterday (wish every day were like that Monday-Thursday!), which means I can do the stay in bed and drink plenty of fluids thing today.
Ah well, looking on the bright side, I usually get my annual cold around Christmas time, so this way I can get it over with and shouldn’t get another one for the rest of the winter. I’m planning on getting some reading done but, as I’ll be stuck indoors all day, don’t be surprised if I Skype you…

Do you have a fever? Around here we think if you have a fever with the rest of the symptoms that makes it the flu, not a cold. I’ve had a gross cold for two weeks, finally on the down side of it. Never actually got very bad. Just unpleasant. Hope yours doesn’t get any worse than it is now. Or – Get well soon! I should find some inappropriate eecard to send. 🙂

Oops, I have a temperature of 38.8C (101.84F) and am feeling terribly achy all over. Weird because I got a flu shot a couple of weeks ago – normal flu, not swine flu. I don’t usually get a flu shot but Nog gets one every year. I went with him for his and when they asked if I wanted one too I thought, what the heck. Arm hurt like a bugger for almost a week after that.
I’ve only ever had flu once (that I know of) about ten years ago and it was AWFUL. I didn’t know I could feel that bad and felt very let down by my body. Anyhow, yeah, hope it doesn’t get that bad this time.
I have to wait awhile to get into bed because Sunny threw up on my top sheet, and my other top sheet (I just have two) was in the wash. They are now washed and upstairs on the roof and should be dry in about an hour. Darn cats, eh?
I’m veeeeeerrry tired and achy. Is 38.8C bad?

Where o where did you get that drippy cat picture?! Delightfully gross.
I’ve been home the last couple of days with aches and sore throat and a bit drippy & coughy… hoping it’ll pass with one more day of R&R.

Here, we are being told “Get the H1N1 shot!” but then you can’t GET the shot unless you are in a group of people designated to GET the shot (Health-care professionals, children, pregnant women, and those caring for the sick). And they can’t even handle the number of people they have already said can get vaccinated. AND, who gets the vaccine depends on the rules in the part of the country you are in. Some provinces are vaccinating EVERYONE. Nor, can you get vaccinated at your Dr.’s office. They have special clinics where you have to line up. Some people were waiting 7 hours to be told “We ran out, today.”
Finally, they started issuing wristbands and assigning times for people to show up. They have been vaccinating all day every day for three weeks and STILL haven’t gotten through the first priority people. Apparently, Americans are crossing the border and lining up to get the vaccine, as well, since they can’t get it where they are.
Meanwhile, virus season is upon us and the longer they leave it the more people are going to get sick.

I just made this. Perfect comfort food – nice & warm & spicy.
Curried cauliflower purée
I cropped that pic, Lori. The original one is here.
Sounds very frustrating, Mudhooks.
And now I think my sheet is dry, so I’m going to get under the duvet and cuddle up with the cats and a good book.

38.8 isn’t good – it’s considered medically relevant andiIf it goes up above 39.5-40.0 you should go to a doctor / the hospital.
Now, that cat in that picture looks like just about the sorriest cat I’ve ever seen. On that note, I’m glad I have a non-dribbling DOG. Woof. Although he snores.

poor you, hope you feel better soon. Snuggling up in bed sounds like the best plan.
I’ve been considering getting a flu vaccine before I get on the plane to fly back to the UK for Christmas – since the recycled air on planes would seem the ideal place to pick up a bug and since I’ll be going back to a northern hemisphere winter… But maybe I’ll just wrap a scarf around my face and smother myself in antiseptic handwash!!!!

Now I have to go look up what that fever is in Fahrenheit. Get Nog to simmer some orange juice with cinnamon and serve it to you in a mug. One thing you have to have easy to hand is orange juice, right?

Ugh! I’m sorry to hear that you’re sick, az. That sounds like no fun at all. I hope that your fever has subsided and that you have gotten some good rest in vomit-free sheets. Feel better! (Does it work if I command you like that?)

Well, I’m up! Or at least sitting up in bed with a hot cup of coffee. I went to bed yesterday at 6.00 and seriously couldn’t move for the rest of the evening. I felt really weak, and body parts I didn’t even know I had were aching like crazy.
Feeling a bit better this morning. And I’m going to stay in ALL DAY and keep bundled up. I ended up going out for awhile yesterday morning, which probably wasn’t the best idea, but Sunny was out of his special cat food and I wasn’t sure if Nog would have time to go and get some between his classes. Not today though. Today is going to be all about duvets and staying warm.
I’m not actually snotty and dribbly, it’s more of an all-body ache and my eyeballs feel like they’re too big for their sockets. And there’s also a weird pain/cough around my mid-chest area that is actually making my port hurt. If it is flu it’s certainly not as bad as the one I had ten years ago. My temp is now 37.3C (99.14F), so I’ve cooled down a bit. Anyhow, it must be something going around because I was supposed to have a breakfast meeting with an old friend this morning and he texted me earlier to say he was sick in bed and asked if we could make it Monday.
Meanwhile, these cats have sure been enjoying my sick time in bed. They haven’t left my side and are being exceptionally cuddly, making me feel very well-loved indeed. Sunny even “rewarded” me yesterday with a HUGE poo, plus his appetite has really picked up (yesterday he actually ate out of the bowl without waiting to be spoonfed!) so fingers crossed that I’ve finally got the diet right for him and he’ll be okay.
The flu vaccine is probably not a bad idea, woo, especially as you’ll be travelling by plane. Won’t stop you from getting a cold, but a cold is much easier to deal with than flu.

I can’t help wondering if months of chemo, surgeries and disruptions haven’t scrambled your body’s response system enough that a mild sort of germ creates an over-the-top response. The year I nearly fried myself working full-time, getting my professional license and training like a bastard, I got a couple of apparent colds that would not get out of my system and came back when I thought they had resolved, making me loopy, feverish and limp. Runners refer to the “marathon flu” and you’ve been doing a marathon.

Cats, tea and books are good companions at an occasion like this. Just make sure you keep an eye on yourself and don’t hesitate to seek medical attention if needed.

I don’t think this cold/flu is particularly over the top, Sled. Well, as long as it doesn’t end up hanging around for ages. Come to think of it, I don’t think I even got my annual cold last year, but that could be because I wasn’t in touch with many people. And in the past few weeks I’ve been around people who have had really bad colds, though of the more snotty variety.
If anything I think the chemo, ops, etc have affected my ability to concentrate more than my immune system. But I know what you mean, about getting so run down that it’s hard to snap back from simple things like colds. Had never heard of “marathon flu” before though.

So in just two days I’ve gone from feeling like total crap to relatively okay. I put it down to plenty of bed rest, making a very good argument for staying home when you feel sick rather than going out to work and making yourself feel worse, not to mention infecting the rest of the public.
I was going to take another “day off”, but it’s Saturday and nice & sunny and so am going out soon to take a walk, do some food shopping – will wear a scarf to keep my neck warm – and then cosy up at home again afterwards.
