This is the one that got away…

I went out to the cat shelter this morning with Nog because I was told there were a lot more cats out there than are shown on the Defensa Felina website and that there were also some smaller ones. They arranged for us to meet up with a volunteer who would drive us out, because the shelter (really just a big old abandoned house) is in a small village just outside Sevilla. Anyhow, there were no little ones there. And although many of the cats were very beautiful and also very affectionate, I had to think about what was best for Azar.

Then I spotted that little darling up there – Indira – who is about 5 months old. Not as small as I was looking for but I decided she would do just fine … and then they told me she was already spoken for! I am so disappointed. It was clear that she was MY cat because when the volunteer tried picking her up she squirmed and twisted until she was put down again. But when I picked her up to give her a cuddle she snuggled right into my arms and fell asleep … I am heart-broken.

So the search continues. You can see more pics below the links.

You may recognise some of these guys from the website. That’s Lolo upper left and Felix lower left. Sled, you were right about Lolo – he’s interesting and has a definite “attitude”. I know I could make him love me, but I wasn’t sure about him and Azar getting along. Same with Felix, whom Nog took an immediate liking to. That guy has charisma and then some! But again, Felix is now almost the same size as Azar, and the idea isn’t to introduce “competition” into his life, but a new friend Azar can be a big brother to and feel – for once – like the big cat in the house.

Those two in the middle you will also recognise, Sled. The two sisters. If they’re not bengals then they must be a bengal mix. Just under a year old and HUGE. Also the most affectionate cats – they were all over us, purring and vying for our attention. That’s Teresa holding them up for a photo. Seriously, if they had been kittens I would have taken them both. Another shot of Indira upper right (be still my aching heart) and then a few of the gang sitting at the window.

After Teresa called to double check that Indira’s adoption was indeed underway (it was) I finally put her down in her basket. It was really hard to let her go!  Kind of like when I wasn’t able to find Caramel again, but worse. And then I was told that another volunteer had three eensy kittens at her place, so I guess I’ll get in touch with her.

I didn’t think this was going to be so hard! Usually there are kittens all over the place. But I think now I’d like a little tortoiseshell kitteh, just like Indira.
