Isn’t this adorable???
And no, it’s not mine. But I’m getting to play with it for a couple of days. On Monday “Málaga Manolo” was here for his class and we were talking about some of the trips that his girlfriend Victoria (my new part-time boss) was going to be taking. I was saying how when she went to Mexico it was difficult to get in touch because she hadn’t taken her laptop and only had the Blackberry, and one thing led to another so that after the class we somehow ended up over at Fnac getting this little baby for Victoria’s next trip to the US. I very generously offered to set up the netbook for her (ha, you kidding? I couldn’t wait to get my mitts on it) and it’s really been fun. It’s only about 18 x 26 cm (7 x 10 inches) and perfect for travelling. Gotta give it back tomorrow…

I have an Acer Aspire One Netbook and I really, really love it. Great having something so small and mobile, and just perfect for surfing the net on the arm of the sofat whilst watching telly/listening to music or something.
Also if, as I do, you spend a huge amount of time on the train they are a godsend. I find that the little trays you get on most trains are rarely big enough to properly balance a full sized laptop (especially since the standard became or it to be widescreen) but that netbooks fit fine!
Love mine…

Heh, I always have Shadow (my 15″ toshiba) on a small end table next to my comfy chair when I’m watching tv. A little netbook would be even better, but at this point in time it’s not a real necessity since I’m not travelling much. I think if I commuted every day I would definitely get one.

Netbooks are too fun, aren’t they? I have an Asus eeePC 900, with 20GB of drive space split between 4G and 16GB solid state drives. I got it 2+ years ago when the 4lb Averatec I’d carted back and forth to NYC for four years finally crashed and I couldn’t rescue it.
I will never ever travel with a full-sized laptop after feeling the weight I save using the 2lb eeePC. But the other thing is that before I got my BlackBerry, I used it at home at least once a day, too – it’s great for quick mail checks, etc. because it boots up and shuts down so quickly. And when I’m flat on my back feeling yucky, it’s easier to manage than my bigger HP which weighs five pounds.
The only thing I’ve found is that my carpal tunnel hand issues have flared up a bit because of the reduced keyboard size of the 9 inch eeePCs. Small price to pay for fun fun fun!

I’m typing this on my netbook. They’re handy when you travel, but awful if you must do anything sensible like writing more than a quick posting. They’re OK to use in bed for checking mail and such, but the screen is too small for reading the newspaper.

I fell like I’m missing some sort of techno gene. all I have is a desk top Mac. I don’t surf the web anywhere but at my desk. But then, I never spend any time on a train or commuting either.

I love this improved technology.
I have a Toshiba netbook and I more recently purchased a full sized Toshiba laptop for my wife, but I am very impressed with the smaller machines out there.
HMG, I also have a big desktop, were I not doing more work on travel I would be perfectly happy with my desktop. As it is, I use it as a sort of server for my little home network of a desktop, a couple of laptops and an ipod touch.
