Heartbeats by José Gonzalez
I first heard this song played in that fabulous Sony Bravia ad with the colourful bouncing balls, and later in Tango’s bouncing fruit spoof/homage ad, and I remember thinking how lovely it was. Then the other night I was watching Bones and this song came on and … wow. It just filled me up and I actually started crying happy tears. There’s just something about it I love. Hope you like it too.
You can see the lyrics below the links.
One night to be confused
One night to speed up truth
We had a promise made
Four hands and then awayBoth under influence
We had divine scent
To know what to say
Mind is a razor bladeTo call for hands of above
To lean on
Wouldn’t be good enough
For me, noOne night of magic rush
The start a simple touch
One night to push and scream
And then reliefTen days of perfect tunes
The colors red and blue
We had a promise made
We were in loveTo call for hands of above
To lean on
Wouldn’t be good enough
For me, noTo call for hands of above
To lean on
Wouldn’t be good enoughAnd you, you knew the hands of the devil
And you, kept us awake with wolf teeth
Sharing different heartbeats
In one nightTo call for hands of above
To lean on
Wouldn’t be good enough
For me, noTo call for hands of above
To lean on
Wouldn’t be good enough
For me, no

Beautiful, indeed.

Yeah, it’s been a lovely earworm since Friday. Not often I get one that I actually like!
I almost liked it better before I read all the lyrics. I would just hum along and sing the parts I knew …
one night to hmmmmm
we were in love
to lean on
wouldn’t be good enough
the colours red and blue

It is very nice. But in order to understand the lyrics I had to actually read them. I guess I’m just an old fuddy duddy, but I feel like if the lyrics are worth singing they are worth singing in such a way that a person listening can actually decipher the words. Of course, this is from a woman who for years thought that the Beatles lyric “The girl with kaleidoscope eyes” was “The girl with colitis walks by” and just COULD NOT understand what was so great about that song. . .

I was shocked as a pre-teen by the lyrics of the Melanie song… You know. The one that goes “I’ve got a brand new pair of underpants I’d like you to see….”

I laugh when people complain they can’t enjoy opera and lieder because they can’t understand the words. I can’t decipher a damn thing that’s sung on the “Classic Rock” satellite radio in the gym.
