I finally got an invite to join Google+ yesterday and since then I have been wasting spending all kinds of time figuring out what it can do. So far it seems like a much more elegant version of Facebook, and I can see it becoming very popular. There are nice options available so each post can go totally public, to all your contacts (all circles) or just selected ones. And I love that I can edit my posts after they’ve been published.
A bit annoyed with myself for being a bit duh and signing up using my Google profile name “azahar sevilla”, instead of my real name. Looks like everyone is using their real name, but oh well. As I’m mostly interested in using this for business stuff then using my brand is probably okay. Or it’ll have to be because it looks like I’m not allowed to change it (oops)! Besides, most people know me as azahar by now. Perhaps I should legally change it…?

Who else out there is now using Google+?

Google is sending out invites to people with multiple blogs/devices/cats first.

Hardly. I had to plead for one on twitter a few times before someone took pity and sent me an invite. Though I agree with you that I have all the essential criteria…

I said I had several blogs, many of which are covered in cobwebs, but it cut no ice. Then, when I admitted to only one laptop, no IWhatsit or even an Android thingy, and one and a half cats (the half is feral and comes for food most days), they laughed and muttered something that sounded like ‘in your dreams’, or ‘Harper Seven’ or something meaningless anyway. I’m sure when everyone else has it and they are looking to overtake Facebook with another 20 million users I will be in that list.

Hi az,
I have been utterly loving it. Im http://gplus.to/rferrett on there BTW. I think it potentially is a winner with some nifty features. And it seems clean and nice unlike FB which I find pretty much intolerable now.

Clean is the key. Google+ does everything FB does and lots more. And does it all with a lot more style. I love the simplicity of it and – so far – it’s been quite intuitive.
You’re in my friends circle now. If I make a geeks one later I’ll add you to that one too. 🙂

Hadn’t heard of it before today – not something i’ll be doing in a hurry though

I’ll look it over in my Copious Spare Time, but how good is it if only a few people get invited?

Been thousands and thousands invited so far, but it’s still in the first stages.

I’d never heard of it until this morning! I don’t even know what it is.

You can change your name if you want after you sign up, I read how somewhere last night, I’ll try and find it again. There’s a Google+ wiki out there … overwhelmed at the moment.

I haven’t had time to do much with it today but am sure it will become a part of my routine, especially if it means I can end up dropping FB.

Oh no, not another one. Pretty soon I’m going to have to concentrate all my energy on just keeping up with all the social media opportunities. Arrrggghhh. Fortunately, I have not been invited to join this exclusive club, which is OK because it will only become remotely interesting once they have a few hundred million people populating the system. I imagine that since Facebook now has plenty of middle-aged adults like moi, all the kids have already bailed and jumped onto something “cooler”, whatever that means. Why is it that cool is good and hot is good but warm is not so hot and cold is just, well, cold?

It’s not really exclusive, just new. Remember when we had to get invites to use Gmail?

I’m not on there yet, but hope to be soon. I have a love/hate relationship with Facebook, so am hoping that google+ will have the qualities of FB that I love without the annoyances of FB that drive me batty. (Not that I need another online distraction! By the way, az, have you tried Instagram?)

I looked at instagram but the options there look a bit samey. Unless it’s changed?
Have you tried the Occipital 360 app? It’s amazing!

Hmm…I’m not sure what options you mean. I’ve just used it for sharing photos, and have had fun with the filters. (I’m lazy when it comes to photo editing.) Is it that you found the filters to be samey? I guess some of them are pretty similar, but I have a few favorites that make the photos either punchier or vintage-looking. But I mostly am enjoying it as a mini social networking platform for just photos.
I haven’t tried Occipital 360. I’m guessing that’s what you used to make the 360 degree shot you posted on Saturday, yes? I will have to check it out, especially if I find myself somewhere more interesting than my living room. (Because who needs to see 360 degrees of clutter?)

Yeah, I thought the filters were samey. But I haven’t tried it on the new phone, so am downloading the app again.
Heh, the first 360º pic I took was of my cluttered livingroom. 🙂

Thanks to Beth I got the name change thing sorted out and am now using my real name on G+. But it feels kind of weird. Online I identify more with being azahar than Shawn.

I’m on it. However, not much time to figure it out yet.
