It’s official! Little Smudge is the newest casa az resident.
Which I don’t think will come as a surprise to most of you. Really the hardest decision was not keeping the orange boy too. He was my original choice when I first saw the kittens a couple of days after they were born, but in the end Smudge won my heart just by being herself.
Last night was the first time Smudge didn’t sleep with her mother and siblings – she was in the big bed with the Big Cat. And it was lovely. She happily slept on my pillow, snuggled up against my head (remind you of someone?) though she did wake up and want to play around 4 am. And this morning I spotted her sitting next to Azar on the bedside thingy. They look good together, don’t they? Born on the same day, 18 years apart.
Now I just have to decide if Smudge is her milk name or if it’s the one she’ll keep from now on.

I can’t get over how eentsy she is. There’s room for two of her on the clock.

Welcome, Smudge! I look forward to watching you grow. Congratulations on choosing Az to be your Big Cat!
I can’t get over how fabulous that photo is. Smudge is almost exactly the size of Azar in the photo, her black ears echoing his black ears, the curves of her back and his legs arching out in a mirrored way. But her proportions are so kitten-like!

So little Smudge is your choice … as you say, no real surprise there! May she have a long & happy relationship with all the Casa Az residents! 🙂

I’m really happy with her but I expect some upset once Pablo picks up the other cats. Smudge has been used to being with them about half the time while they’ve all been here. And she cries even I leave the room even for a couple of minutes. Tonight I have to go out and, until the other two accept her, she’ll have to stay in my room with food and water. I don’t think she’ll like that.
Re: the incumbants. Loki is so interested in Smudge and comes up to her making “hey, I like you!” noises. They’ve even touched noses a few times. But then Smudge does a little growl & hiss and Loki backs away looking terrified, which is hilarious seeing as he outweighs her by about 7 kilos. Meanwhile Luna is totally put out by this young upstart and hisses at her at every opportunity. So best to keep them separate when nobody is home.
And so a new era begins…

That is such a great picture. Very cute kitten. I have a cat named Scuff, and I’m always sorry that it’s not a two-syllable name. She ends up being kitty or Stuff or Scuffie or BattleShip Scuff. [large and gray] Two syllables makes for a better name, I don’t know why. Just sayin’.

I’ve always had cats with 2-syllable names until now. They do work best, even though I often end up shortening them to one (Loke, Loon) for some reason. Or adding on like Loki-bean/Lokalicious or Loopy-loon/Lunatic. And the weird thing is that I keep almost calling Smudge something else when I go to call her name… but I haven’t figured out what yet.
