It seems like just yesterday that little Morcilla was this eensy little kitten. Even now almost fully grown (she’ll be 10 months old on February 7th) she’s still quite small, not even as big as Luna. But she has been going into heat lately and – much worse! – today started peeing on stuff. At least I think it’s due to being in heat. Today was actually the first time I’ve noticed her doing this and I caught her at it three times – am starting to worry about leaving her with the run of the house. Because man it stinks!
Anyhow, I called the vet and she said the earliest she can operate (!!!) is on Friday morning. Meanwhile, I guess that will give Morcilla some time to get out of heat as they say it’s more dangerous to operate then. Also, it may be an infection so I’ll keep my eye on her and check for traces of blood (none in today’s pee). Honestly, this is so weird. I’ve never had a female cat do this before when in heat, but my vet (and google) have informed me it’s not uncommon. Eep.
You’re still thinking of them as little darling babies, and all of a sudden they’re teenagers full of hormones…

I know! But must she be so RUDE about it?
Anyhow, she seems to like peeing on soft things so I’ve left an old pair of slippers behind my bedroom door…

Update! Operation has been rescheduled for Monday. First of all because I have a doctor’s appointment on Friday morning, and although I could probably do that and get Morcilla to the vet’s in time, I also have a tapas tour in the evening. And I just couldn’t leave her on her own after bringing her home. So that’s settled.
Meanwhile, the crazy monster that used to be my sweet kitten is howling her head off all over the place and also peeing here and there (though that is mostly being controlled by leaving out soft comfy “pee stations” for her). Gaaaah. It’s gonna be a long week!

I guess we have been lucky. Most of our cats have been male and the females, with the exception of one, never went into heat before we had them fixed. Mac had two sets of kittens before we got her fixed. The only real problem we had with Mac was the yowling and a bit of bleeding.
