I have to wonder why anyone first thought of making coin holders shaped like pigs?

Your comment piqued my curiosity so I went and googled it. Apparently a pig is also earthenware and people often saved money in earthenware kitchen pots called “pig pots”.

Now I do remember that! There was a sort of dense clay that was called “pygg.”
