It’s taken me this long to finally see the Christmas lights, which were switched on during the long weekend (Dec 6-8th). Mostly because I almost never go out in the evening, which of course is coupled with not going out much at all anyhow. This used to be one of the highlights of the year for me. This year less so. In fact Christmas itself feels less, well, like Christmas this year. And it’s not because I’ve spent it on my own, because I’ve done that plenty of times. Maybe I’m just losing the ability to get caught up in Christmas joy like I used to. Or joy in general. But yeah, the lights were lovely.

It’s all felt a bit “ordinary” this year. Normally we enjoy a Spanish Christmas, a bit less commercial” than the UK and more focused on sharing food with friends. We don’t have the Three Kings Parade to look forward to, always joyful. But we do have to look on this as a temporary blip and hope and trust in the future.
