Morcilla LOVES her daily wet combing, followed by a dollop of malt paste on her paw. Many years ago now my American in Paris pal Nancy told me about wet combing and there’s been no going back. Well okay, it’s apparently not for everyone, but both Azar and Morcilla were/are huge fans. In fact if Morcilla hasn’t had her “wet combing session” by noon she gets very vocal about it. Luna, of course, hates it. But at least she loves the malt so that helps with hair balls (though not with leaving fur on every surface everywhere, like she cares).
Try it on your cat! Just get a comb, run it under the tap for 2-3 seconds, then lightly shake it out leaving small droplets between the teeth… and comb away. The moisture not only picks up a LOT more hair but it also refreshes the coat, removing any dust. I comb in the direction of the fur growth first, then backwards, then back again. This girl can’t get enough of it.
I think I might have head of this in the dark backward and abysm of time, but… never done it!
Grooming cats successfully was always a struggle for me — cats hated it, it seemed to hurt, it didn’t work very well — until someone invented a thing called the Furminator. https://www.furminator.net/ I don’t know how available they are internationally, but what a game changer. I’m guessing that the teeth of the comb are designed a lot like the barbs of a cat’s tongue, because OMG do the clouds of dry dead fur come out, and my cats not only tolerate if but seem to like it and sometimes even bat my hand when I start to put it away, the same way they do to tell you that you’re not excused from continuing to pet them. Resounding success all round, but I may do a little of this wet comb thing too because sometimes the amount of escaped fur sailing through the air is a housekeeping nuisance. And now I’ve got four more cats’ worth of it to police up.
