Last week when Yolanda the vet told me I’d have to start force-feeding Azar I cringed, remembering the ordeal of having to wrap Sunny in a towel and struggle to get him to take his liquid meds. But with Azar it turned out to be a piece of cake! As you can see in the pics, Nog holds him without a towel or any kind of restraint, and although Azar squirms a little, he doesn’t clamp his mouth shut tight like Sunny did, and he is quite okay about getting everything down the hatch – believe me, this is a cat who immediately turns into the Tasmanian Devil when he doesn’t want to be held. And okay, there is a bit of “food spray” resulting in much washing of Nog’s sweaters, but since I’ve been perfecting my technique (including plenty of kisses on the head between squirts of food), I think Azar has actually come to enjoy eating this way…

Since his recent mystery illness, and especially since the arrival of Loki, I’ve been telling Azar … “hey, don’t you worry ’bout a thing chevrolet, you and I can conquer the world”. I don’t know why that sentence kept coming up. And of course “chevrolet” is a silly private joke referring to a Stevie Wonder song called Don’t You Worry ‘Bout A Thing … and the background singers go “chévere”, which sounded like chevrolet to my young 15 year-old ears. But one of my very favourite Stevie Wonder songs is this one – You and I, We Can Conquer the World, though it didn’t become my favourite Stevie Wonder song until I heard someone else sing it – Diane Heatherington – in a little tea room/restaurant in Winnipeg I used to frequent called The Ting. She sang this song like nobody else and it always filled me up. I think if kd Lang ever sang it I would just crumple up and die of happiness…
Such beautiful lyrics, neither gender nor species specific.

Welcome Loki!
I am probably tempting fate by choosing this name (the original choice “Tapita” just didn’t feel right when I said it out loud to him) but he is definitely a source of mischief and mayhem. Just getting these few photos was extremely difficult as the little thing doesn’t sit still long enough … made me realise that it’s been over 16 years since I’ve had such a small kitten in the house. My goodness, they get absolutely everywhere! All the time!
Anyhow, after much ado, the little guy arrived here on Friday evening. He was a bit confused at first, and Azar (still recovering from his mystery illness) wasn’t very pleased to see him. But after a bit of hissing and spitting by both parties, we seem to have reached a place where they can be in the same room without any obvious rancour on Azar’s part. Loki was keen on being pals from the first minute he arrived (he was living with several other bigger cats in his foster home), but I think it’s going to take a bit of time for him to win Azar over.
Adorable watching him though. And yesterday I actually caught Azar playing with one of Loki’s toys – batting it around the livingroom – and my heart almost burst with joy. Though of course, it turns out my whole apartment is a huge cat toy – who knew? Loki will play with anything and everything, including thin air. But to see Azar playing like that, especially as we are still having to force-feed him, really made my day.
So whaddaya think? Cute or what?
