The countdown begins! Ever since I very unfortunately got Covid two weeks before the 2022 booster shots became available for my age group I always get a bit anxious this time of year. The good news is that this year’s Covid-Flu campaign started in Andalucía yesterday and, as usual, goes by age and recognised risk factors. So I have to wait until the 21st for mine (Peter can get his from the 14th)… and will keep fingers crossed until then. 🤞🤞🤞
The US stopped staging vaxes by age countdown pretty early, so it’s basically two boosters a year for people over 65 and high risk, one for everyone else. But pharmacies don’t ask you for any proof that you’re high risk, technically you can just book the appointment and say that you’re borderline diabetic or have hypertension or you’re obese or whatever. I don’t know anyone who’s pulled this off regularly, but I frequently see vaccine activists encouraging people to do it.
It’s so weird, because we know that the vaccine is only so-so at reducing transmission, vs. severity, meaning even if you are still “lower risk” you could hand it to your frail grandma or neighbor, possibly without even knowing you’d eve caught it. I guess the metrics of public health have just fallen out of people’s brains.
