Wanted to talk about feedreaders and RSS stuff.
Now that so many of us are communicating via blogs I just wondered how everyone is ‘managing’ their stuff.
Awhile ago I subscribed to Bloglines, which seems to work quite well. I can subscribe to new posts and/or comments – though so far I have only been able to subscribe to both on other WordPress pages. For example, Blogger pages don’t seem to have the comments option . But with Bloglines I get a little ‘ping!’ to notify me when a new comment or post comes through and the icon also changes colour, in case I don’t hear the ping.
This is especially good for when people reply to older posts, so you don’t have to check pages back in case you’ve missed anything.
Meanwhile, I’m still not sure what that RSS feed thingy at the bottom of my sidebar is all about – when I click on it I just see a lot of coded stuff. Also curious about other people’s experiences with various feedreaders/aggregators such as Bloglines.
And for those of you still not using a feedreader perhaps this will help you see how easy it is to ‘get connected’ because it really does make staying in touch a lot easier.
So my first two questions are:

Walked into the bathroom this morning and when I turned the corner there it was!!! At fucking eye level no less, scuttling down the wall and I totally screamed!!! – kind of like the scream you hear in cheap horror films. Raced out of the bathroom and got my hero Peterย to grab a shoe and smash it to smithereens.
Bit of history. I live in a very very old apartment building in the centre of Sevilla. And of course everyone knows that these horrid creatures are living in our walls, floor/ceiling spaces, etc. But they don’t usually come out. Talking about the massive two-inch-long American cockroaches that also fly! (my worst nightmare).
During the more than 12 years I’ve lived in this apartment I’ve only ever seen one or two of the fuckers annually – usually during the summer. And when Lua was alive she made very short work of them – I only knew they had been there cos I’d find their sorry corpses on the floor the next morning.
But last September they started showing up in the kitchen and bathroom on a regular basis (gaaaa!). Then after a couple of weeks they disappeared again. At the time a lot of people in the neighbourhood had been complaining about this and they put it down to all the recent road works – disrupting the nests? But then I found one in the kitchen a couple of weeks ago (when I went to get a bottle of cold water in the middle of the night – gaaaa!) and then again this morning in the bathroom.
I honestly cannot cope with them at all. I mean, I know they’re way smaller than me and not life-threatening or anything. But it’s the gaaaaa-factor, you know?
So it looks like I’m going to have to find some sort of ‘not terribly toxic’ way to control them. Because of the cats I can’t spray or put down other toxic stuff. I’m told boric acid powder is very effective but I’m not sure if it would harm the cats. Also, I once read that putting down silica sand is something that gets attached to their bodies and later when they groom (roaches groom???) their insides get ripped to shreds.
I just don’t understand why after so many years without any problem with these most horrible things that they are suddenly showing up in my home . . . help?

The favourite game at casa az.
Nog and I play almost daily, which I find very generous of him since he wins maybe once every two or three months. Though the past couple of days he seems to be on a roll. He’s still only won one game so far this weekend (first since I think last March or April) but the scores are getting uncomfortably closer and he is also coming up with far too many seven-letter words . . . most annoying. Lately I’ve barely been able to cheese him! A nod to Terry Pratchett for that one – a cheesing is like a creaming only it hurts more.
The score point difference between a creaming and a cheesing is shown below, based on how many points The Winner (ie. me ๐ ) wins by.
Had to come up with category five awhile ago – you can probably figure out why.

I’ve been missing the option of a ‘preview button’ here when making changes to my blog, and so I have created a new blog today called the drawing board which, as the name suggests, will be a place for me to play around with new ideas, images, etc. without mucking up this blog in the interim.
Then I thought that others might also like to use this option, so if there’s anything you’d like to try out or see ‘on the side’ before making the final changes to your blog, just let me know and I’ll put it up for you. ๐
