Sherry and live music on various Sevilla hotel rooftops with spectacular views… what’s not to love? Last night I was invited by Vinos de Jerez to the opening Sherry On Top event at the Hotel Inglaterra. It was great fun, with a sherry tasting (fino, oloroso, cream cocktail) followed by music by local band Los Quiero and more sherry cocktails.

I didn’t realise that the original version of this song was performed by Nina Simone, not The Animals. But I also love this version by Santa Esmeralda, and this video has some nifty “splicing & dicing” with professional flamenco dancers.

The first time I ever heard this I was 17 years old, sitting in the apartment I was sharing with my boyfriend Brian in Winnipeg. Had CBC radio on… it was around 6 pm (I even remember the time!) and then my life changed. The combination of wildness and precision, with all these amazing musicians performing live at Carnegie Hall, still blows me away. Happy Sunday! 🙂
