Sunday mornings are the best.

Much better than the rest of Sunday which, in Sevilla anyhow, can be a bit boring (no Sunday shopping!). Not that I need to shop every day of the week but there is something very pleasant about, say, going out for a late brekky and then browsing in a bookshop. But I digress.

At casa az we tend to spend Sunday mornings in bed being exquisitely lazy and this morning was no exception – though being exquisitely lazy does not include sleeping much later than 7 as that’s when the boys start up a dawn chorus of squawking and moaning which continues until they are fed. By which time we’re both wide awake and so the kettle gets put on.

Favourite Sunday morning activities in bed (without getting too personal 😉 ) include drinking gorgeous hot coffee whilst checking emails, blogs and the online newspapers on the laptop. Sometimes we read a bit or listen to Radio 4 quiz shows while having breakfast and we have also been known to play scrabble in bed, though that can get a bit tricky – one sudden move can spell disaster! (sorry). And sometimes on chilly winter Sunday mornings we stay warm by watching a dvd on the laptop whilst cuddled up under the duvet (hard to imagine in July).

But I think having breakfast in bed is my favourite thing of all. That and the lovely random chatting that happens when two people are being exquisitely lazy together.

Today I learned that the Spanish word azahar (which means orange blossom in English) comes from the Arabic word al-azahar, which means white flower. I knew the word was Arabic in origin but didn’t know what it meant until today.
