Sunday mornings are the best.
Much better than the rest of Sunday which, in Sevilla anyhow, can be a bit boring (no Sunday shopping!). Not that I need to shop every day of the week but there is something very pleasant about, say, going out for a late brekky and then browsing in a bookshop. But I digress.
At casa az we tend to spend Sunday mornings in bed being exquisitely lazy and this morning was no exception – though being exquisitely lazy does not include sleeping much later than 7 as that’s when the boys start up a dawn chorus of squawking and moaning which continues until they are fed. By which time we’re both wide awake and so the kettle gets put on.
Favourite Sunday morning activities in bed (without getting too personal 😉 ) include drinking gorgeous hot coffee whilst checking emails, blogs and the online newspapers on the laptop. Sometimes we read a bit or listen to Radio 4 quiz shows while having breakfast and we have also been known to play scrabble in bed, though that can get a bit tricky – one sudden move can spell disaster! (sorry). And sometimes on chilly winter Sunday mornings we stay warm by watching a dvd on the laptop whilst cuddled up under the duvet (hard to imagine in July).
But I think having breakfast in bed is my favourite thing of all. That and the lovely random chatting that happens when two people are being exquisitely lazy together.
What’s your favourite way to spend Sunday mornings?
As you can see, I don’t spend too many mornings being exquisitely lazy in bed. K usually sleeps later than I do (though I nearly always fall asleep earlier than he does, so it evens out). We’ve never tried breakfast in bed. I’m afraid to try- we’re both such klutzes!
Many shops are open Sundays here, and not just the large retail chains, so book/CD/etc shopping is always an option. During the summer months, like now, there are many outdoor fests, and I sometimes like to pop around the smaller, local fests- there are usually booths with handmade goods for sale and local bands contributing music.
I think my favorite way to spend Sunday mornings is curled up on the couch with a nice cup of good, hot coffee, watching a silly movie together, or listening to some music while reading the paper or talking. K often reads to me, too, which I secretly adore.

I’m not very good at lazy mornings, on any day (he says, typing at 6:35am). But Sunday mornings here include the option of the Sunday markets – the ones with handicrafts and secondhand books and delicious Ethiopian and Lao food. Mind you, I’ve not been there for a couple of weeks – it’ so easy to spend far too much.

Mmmmm. . . I also love being read to! Must remember to mention that to Nog for next Sunday.
Notice how Ivan just *had* to mention exotic foods and secondhand books . . . 😦

Well, you asked the question… 😉
My second-favourite Sunday morning involves sitting on a couch thinking about what to do next, which isn’t anywhere near as interesting.

Yeah I know I asked for it 😛 but that’s precisely what I meant about Sevilla being boring on Sundays. No markets, no bookshops (or other shops) open …
One thing we used to like doing was going out for arugula salad and pizza for lunch and then to the cinema for an early flick (4.30 or 5pm). But then the pizza restaurant, which is enroute to the cinema, closed down. 😦 And trying to go for tapas on a Sunday afternoon is total madness because, of course, that’s what *everyone* is doing since there’s nothing else to do here.

What about museums? I’d assume there’s a few of those about the place.

Yep, that’s usually where *everyone* goes before they go out for tapas. 😉

Art galleries ae fun – on busy days, ignore the art and look at the people looking at the art. Much more amusing.

I’ve been going for walks *early* on Sundays this summer — the birds are singing, it’s lovely and cool, and no one is around. Not that I’m anti-social, oh no, not me.
Then I wander over to my favorite cuban bakery, and get some hot coffee and a healthy pastry. So far, I have been able to resist the blandishments of the carrotcake and danishes, and stick to bran muffins. Very good they are, too — for bran muffins.

That sounds lovely, SC – we are actually planning to start our early morning summer walks again. We also did this last summer. Getting out before it becomes TOO HOT and either walking in the park or by the river for an hour or two before brekky.
PC – breakfast in bed should usually include food that cannot make a huge mess, like toast or croissants, etc. Maybe scrambled eggs too. Coffee and OJ are always placed on the bedside nighttables so as not to have accidental spillage. You really should try it sometime. 🙂

Sunday morning again – just waiting to be served coffee in bed. 🙂
Last night Nog started reading aloud to me – The Papers of Samuel Marchbanks by Robertson Davies. It’s years since I’ve had someone read to me and I’d forgotten how much I love it (thanks for the reminder, PC). And Nog has such a lovely reading voice, what with his BBC accent and all. 😉
Am presently torn between lazing about after coffee and breakfast (it’s now about 8.30) or going out for a walk along the river before it gets too HOT. Decisions, decisions . . .

Was woken up early by the dulcet tones of Azar screaming his head off in the hallway. 😕
Finally Nog got up to give him and Sunny some breakfast. As per usual, Azar ate about three wee biscuits and then came scampering back, leapt onto the bed and snuggled up next to me for a cuddle, all purring and happy. You see, unlike Sunny, Azar is never really that interested in breakfast – his main reason for joining in the dawn chorus is to get the humans up so they’ll play with him. Lucky for him he’s so cute.
So now what? Do we lounge around all morning drinking coffee? Do we go out for an early morning river walk? (went out far too late last Sunday and nearly died of heat exhaution)
There’s still one more rented dvd to watch, books to read (and write), Just A Minute to listen to on Radio 4, decisions about what to have for breakfast to be made …
I think it’s this luxury of deciding between several very pleasant prospects that makes Sunday mornings so special. There’s nowhere else we need to be but here. 🙂

Mmmm… total decadence today.
For a change we managed to go back to sleep after the 7am cat feeding, so that was nice to get a bit of extra sleep.
Then coffee in bed, reading, emailing & blogging on the laptop, brunch at noon (also in bed), some radio 4 (Just A Minute), more reading … and finally got up around 2pm!
Mostly faffed around for the rest of the afternoon – at 42º it was too hot to go out. More reading (we’re really enjoying our books atm). Snack and a film around 8pm.
And now back to bed. 😀
Lovely lazy Sunday . . .

So what is everyone else doing this lovely Sunday? 🙂
It’s noon here and we’ve just had brunch and a scrabble game and will probably spend most of the rest of the day tidying up and possibly listening to/watching some of this:
Bill Moyers on Faith and Reason

I wish I were still sleeping! K’s parents came along to watch him play last night, and we didn’t get home till almost 2:00 this morning.
We’re driving out to my grandma’s this afternoon and having some dinner with her and my uncle. Other than that, I expect we’ll do a load of laundry this morning and maybe watch a short movie?

Pretty much nothing. It´s too hot! OK,OK! nothing compared to what tou have in the Tropics but 30C is very hot at this time of the year in the Far North.
I didn´t leave bed until past one o´clock. The laundry I didn´t finish yesterday, picking up the gazillion books Putte (our new cat) has pushed out of the shelves during the night; tried my new purple corset for the first time and paid my oldest son´s bills.
He is out at sea, and obviously his Dad was supposed to have taken care of that. But ( as usual) Mum gotta fix it…

Gaaaaaaaa! Nog’s laptop hard disk is apparently fucked. Last time we turned it on there was a funereal black screen saying the hard disk was about to DIE so we should save everything tout suite.
So now what are we supposed to do tomorrow (Sunday) morning in bed while we have coffee and brekky and all that?
Bugger.

Second Sunday in a row coming up with no laptop to snuggle up next to in bed with hot coffee and brekky – to read the news, check emails and blogs … that’s really become quite a cosy routine.
Coffee and reading books is also a nice Sunday-in-bed snuggly activity, but less ‘interactive’.
Not sure what else to do tomorrow … honestly, Sundays in Seville are totally snore!

It’s now been five weeks without the laptop. Like, why??? It takes approximately five minutes to stick in a new hard disk. Gaaa!
Meanwhile, Nog and I are really missing our Sunday mornings in bed with hot coffee and the laptop, reading blog and h2g2 stuff and emails together, then listening to Radio 4 programmes.
We’re also missing being able to watch films in bed at night, all snuggled up with the cats and feeling all cosy.
Five weeks??? Last time Nog sent his laptop to HP it was back in five days. It beggars belief that it should take this long. Grrr…

It must be on a slow boat from China! Email HP or phone them and complain.

Apparently it’s sent to Germany. And the dept. store Corte Inglés (who is responsible for the second year of the guarantee) kept it at there for ten days before calling us to say they needed another copy of our bill – gaaaa!
Then they presumably sent it off to HP.
Anyhow, we’ve sent HP an email, maybe we’ll get it back soon. It just doesn’t make sense. If we hadn’t gone through the guarantee and just bought a new hard disk it probably would have been fixed within a few days.

Anyhow, Nog has expressed a wish to have a cat morning tomorrow (Sunday). And since I had a total cat day on Thursday I reckon it’s his turn. 🙂

It’s now 7pm and we are still in bed! 🙂
Bit of a shame to have missed a lovely day out there – no rain for a change and 25º – but somehow we just didn’t want to get up.
Had a total comfort food brunch around 1pm (buttery mashed potatoes, sweetcorn and crispy bacon) while we watched a dvd on the laptop. But mostly we don’t know where the day went – and so quickly (also it’s now dark!). Mostly reading and chatting and blogging and whatnot…
And so we have now opened a bottle of wine and I am now going to make a snack (fried chicken nuggets with two sauces) to eat while we watch another dvd. And then I guess it will be almost time to go back to sleep.
Meanwhile, Nog hasn’t had one cig today and we hope this is the start of a permanent change. He said staying in bed has helped, but obviously he can’t do this every day.

Glad to hear the good news about the not having cigs!
Staying in bed all day sounds nice… I did a lot of that Friday with my personal day off work.
We went out for brunch today, after errands. I went hog wild and had a bloody Mary. I like making brunch at home, though. Buttery mashed potatoes and sweet corn are to DIE for.
Just reading that posting made me sleepy!!

It’s a very cold rainy winter Sunday morning but since Nog and I are doing ‘tag team bed cats’ these days, we decided to get up and have our coffee in the living room so we could keep Sunny company.
Actually, Sunny got the bed last night but we both woke up early (around 6am) and had one of those nice long rambling talks until it was cat brekky time. So I switched cats then as Azar is always much more interested in morning cuddles than cat bikkys. Then we went back to sleep for a couple of hours – delicious!
So now it’s almost 10am and we are going to have a different sort of lazy Sunday morning, in pj’s in the livingroom with both heaters on and lovely hot coffee. Might even watch a film, not something we usually do in the morning. But first it’s time to make the humans some brekky… 🙂

Nice long rambling talk included a mildly surreal aside triggered by az’s remark that Azar was “purring for Spain”. There followed a discussion on formation and synchronised purring, high, long and triple purring, long distance purring…
It was too cold to go to the cinema, so we’re now contemplating a crusty baguette snack and a DVD in front of the heaters, surrounded by cats.

Lovely Sunday morning today. Sunny woke us up around 8 o’clock and then after having coffee we decided to go out for breakfast at our favourite brekky bar. We had freshly squeezed oj and toasted ‘molletes’ with butter and jamon serrano. Mmmm…
Then we took a walk and since then have just been hanging around here doing various this-and-that things.
How has your Sunday been?
