…since starting here on WordPress last May.
I reckon mostly lurkers from WordPress tag links and also from h2g2, since I have a link to my blog on my PS there. Still, that’s a lotta peeks.
I find that I lurk a lot more on blogs than I used to on h2g2. Perhaps because a lot of blogs seem more like personal journal entries rather than conversation threads. How about you? Are you mostly a ‘peeping tom’ or do you usually comment on blogs that you visit?
ps
checked out the new avatar feature yet?
I usually comment only if I have something “worthwhile” to contribute. Sometimes I think it’s wiser just to lurk, at least for a while, especially if, as you say, the posting seems personal. Sometimes, one can inadvertently say “the wrong thing” in response to something someone has psted. Sometimes, deeply personal posts are more a way for someone to verbalize and externalize feelings than a desire to start conversation, and there are times when a single-smiley or brief reply seems insensitive or something.
Sometimes I’ll lurk on non-personal posts simply because the topic is something unfamiliar to me and I really don’t have anything to say.

I’ve also sometimes lurked on other WordPress blogs by clicking on the little white arrow in the upper right-hand corner (which used to say ‘next’, now it’s just an arrow).
I think that unless a blog written by someone I don’t know was specifically about something I was interested in, I would never comment.
I’ve had a few ‘unknown people’ show up here and posting comments, which is fine by me. But so far they have not been comments that seem to ‘fit’, if you know what I mean. Like that person posting comments on the ‘cult of skinny’ post … seems he just wants to talk about how sexy skinny women with small butts are. 🙄

oohhh, officially 10,001 peeks as of 9.20pm in Sevilla on 3 September … 😯

Like my avi? It´s the head of the dragon skeleton behind Snape in one of the HP movies, dunno which.
I´ve got mixed feelings about many sneak peaks. At the moment I have too much attention from unknown males at “the other place” as well as at “another place”. The line between politeness and ignorance is not always easy to decide.

Yes, I do like the dragon skull – it’s very YOU!
I worry less about unknown males being a bother since I’ve been living with Nog – seems these types bother ‘spoken for’ women less than others.
I could opt to take this blog off the search engine thingy but as there’s also links to our clothing biz here I think it’s best to keep all possible links open. And anyhow, this blog is mostly quite lighthearted and chatty – got the other more private ones for, um, more private stuff. 🙂

I haven’t lurked many blogs here; maybe I should start… Mind you, I’d like to think that I’m lurker-free, especially since I’m immune from search engines.
As for the avatar thing – H’mmm. I quite liked not having avatars. I will find one, sooner or later, but it’s not a priority.

To be honest, I preferred not having avatars too … but if it’s either that or a big question mark, a wee pic seems the better option.
Re: lurkers. When I check my blog stats the majority of visitors are either wordpress friends or from my PS on h2g2 … don’t actually get that many from the search engine thang.

I made myself immune to the search engine thing, too, though I did post a link to my blog on my PS at h2. I’m confident that, while it seems I’m still interesting enough to talk *about*, any problematic people from h2 won’t bother with me here.
I haven’t checked my blog stats but I’ll bet I haven’t even has 1,000 peeks. I’m just not that interesting. 😉

I lurk and I comment both. There are blogs that I visit regularly that I enjoy reading, but I don’t always feel like I am “qualified” to comment.
And I have been guilty of making the comment that “doesn’t fit”, that even makes the receiver irate. But I guess I’m getting better.
What use is an avatar, and was I supposed to choose one? I’m confused now.

The avatar is a sort of ‘photo signature’ that shows up when you post a comment on WordPress (it doesn’t extend to other blogsites – yet).
The link to the avatar tutorial is on the opening post here. You can put up any photo you like, same as doing a custom header.
I’ve also noticed more ‘unknown visitors’ since the Tag Surfer function was installed here. It’s supposed to be related to the subjects in your blog but as it links to category names, general ones like ‘welcome’ will end up linking you to just about anything.

I’ve decided that I’ll put up an avatar, just as soon as I find a picture of the back of my head.

How about at a photo booth?

Now that’s a thought.
I’m also thinking about raiding the cartoon collection. There must be a simple line drawing in there that would cope with being miniaturised.

More than 11,000 peeks now … eek!
Really, very few come from search-engine stuff – I think it’s more that this blog is set up as a rather light chat blog, with various topics inviting discussion.
Suits me just fine. I really like having all you guys here. 🙂

Yeah well, you started here later than me, don’t start several new posts a week … and still don’t have a cute avatar 😛

Who says question marks aren’t cute?

I’ve noticed that WordPress has changed the question mark thingy to look a bit cuter.
Still, not nearly as cute as Azar peeking over the top of Nog’s laptop!

I lurk a lot. Everywhere.
But then, you already knew that.

It turns out that lots of people lurk, TRiG. Though most don’t make themselves known. 😉
Now that I’m up to more than 13,000 peeks I rather doubt I know all the people who are lurking about here – or, I might know who they are but they choose to remain anonymous lurkers.
Whatever. It’s a public blog, after all.

Out of curiosity I’ve put one of those Maps on my front page. Won’t show anything until tomorrow though.
