How did I know that place would be located in Cincinnati? Criminy.

We’ll I’d go see it! A friend took his family to Tennessee earlier in the year and their whole trip was planned around visiting Dollywood.
A great quote I heard from Linda Smith:
If God wanted people to believe in him…he’d exist!
More seriously, if tangentially…she became President of the British Humanist Association after a member heard her on R4 discussing her lack of faith. She was talking about the Holocaust and said:
“Surely if there were a time for God to intervene, that would have been it. Where was he?”
The interviewer countered:
“Some would respond: ‘But where were the people’?”
To which she replied:
“Ah, but you see, some people did respond…God didn’t do anything!”
One amazing woman with a very sexy intellect. When she died, everyone suddenly realised that she wasn’t just thair own personal discovery.

Linda Smith’s wit was delicious.
Listening to her always made me want to hug myself with glee.
Her repartee with Jeremy Hardy on the News Quiz was particularly brilliant. I remember one piece of silliness which nearly resulted in damp carpets at Teuchter Towers; something about taking stuff back to M&S – including a sandwich which was the wrong size because it kept falling out of someone’s bottom. It was much, much funnier when they said it
Apologies to az for the hi-jack.

I’m ashamed to note that one of those responsible for this Ghastly Thing is Australian, but glad to note that we’ve managed to export him – and that he admits something like this Ghastly Thing simply wouldn’t be possible here.
D’you think they’ll have a tableau to demonstrate the rules on clothing? That bit about not combining two sorts of fabric would be an exciting display. The bit about not eating bats would be good too. Just imagine – an animatronic person caught with a look of shame on its face, halfway through munching on a fruitbat. Then the Big Hammer can come down and do some smiting.

Did you hear the tribute to Linda Smith on Radio4 last week. There’s a link on my page. Just click on my name to get there.

Honestly, astrology is crap, just ask the I Ching. But seriously, did anyone else feel that Mel Gibson’s remake of the classic Life of Brian wasn’t anywhere near as funny as the original?
Sorry, I gotta joke about it or I will sit down and cry at the gullability of mankind.

I don’t mind religion, as long as they don’t try to impose their imaginary friend on me, my society and my legal system.
Oh, wait…!

Thanks for the link, alji. I’d seen that tribute advertised earlier as ‘coming up’ but it didn’t say when.
I remember listening to another tribute by the News Quiz guys shortly after her death – it was soooo damned funny and at the same time almost unbearably painful to listen to. Anyhow …

Hi Az,
I saw a documentary about the museum on BBC about a year ago when it was being built – laughed? I almost shat.
As a theist (stop groaning Eddie) my take on this is that religion should be a personal and private thing. All arms of the state should be utterly secular as well as all organisations that offer public services. This would include museums who, as educational establishments, should have a regulated commitment to the truth.
I no more want someone pushing their faith at me than I would at anyone else. “Treat as tha’ would be tret”.
I suggest that if this is not so then the British Government has to begin funding Academies for young padewan-learners, as Jedi is the country’s fourth largest stated religion.
As for Linda, well she was two years younger than me when she died and I must admit to crying at the news of her passing, but through her wit and wisdom she will live on. I have never heard her like before, and doubt I ever will again. A goddess amongst humanists and humourists alike.
Blessings,
Matholwch .
