What’s the funniest movie you’ve ever seen?
I know – probably an impossible question. Over at The Samovar we were given two choices by Dan and I just wanted to open up the options a bit.
Actually, I don’t think I’ll be able to pick just one, so you don’t have to either. 😉
You were only offered two choices because there are only two choices! 😉

Bob help me, but when put to the question, I couldn’t come up with *one*! (yikes)
I know I have a sense of humor, it’s around here somewhere…

Given the choice between the two at The samovar, I’d pick “Dr Strangelove” for sure. It’s certainly a favorite of mine.
But it’s true, I could never pick *just one*. There are a few: “Putney Swope”, “The Loved One”, “This Is Spinal Tap”, “The Fearless Vampire Killers (or: Pardon Me, But Your Teeth Are In My Neck)”, “Scotland, PA”, “Private Parts” (no, not that dreadful Howard Stern thing- the Paul Bartel film), “Start the Revolution Without Me”…

Tch Tch Tch. Not one mention of The Gods Must Be Crazy, or of The Little Shop of Horrors. Not even a sniff of The Rocky Horror Show. I wonder where the Pink Panther is hiding. I also see the basement still contains some of the banished Carry On tail – err – tales although they are unlikely to be brought out in view of decent film critics.
No, I am like Spacecadette. I cannot think of one.

My mind also went blank when Nog and I were discussing this last night. But some of the funniest I’ve seen include:
· Life of Brian
· Animal Crackers
· Young Frankenstein
· Airplane
· Groundhog Day

More of the funniest movies I’ve seen… “Repo Man”, “Pink Flamingos”, “Meet the Feebles”, “Bedazzled” (Peter Cook/ Dudley Moore), “Delicatessen”.
Oh, nearly all of Mel Brooks’ films, though “Young Frankenstein” was indeed the funniest.
And for sheer silliness, stuff that’s funny because it’s so stinky, the MST3K versions of “Space Mutiny”, “Santa Claus Conquers the Martians”, “Cave Dwellers”, and “Manos: the Hands of Fate”. The more we watch them, the funnier they get.

That’s what I think of when I think “funny movie”, Woodpigeon … one that has several laugh out loud moments.
There are lots of films that I find clever and/or amusing, but not necessarily FUNNY. And some (like Airplane) that I might not find as funny as I did 25 years ago, but at the time I was almost rolling in the aisle.
Saw a film recently that made me laugh out loud a lot and now I can’t remember which one it was! 😕

Oh! Delicatessen, yes.
Also, Evil Dead 2 for the horror movie aficionado.

I hadn’t even thought to include clever or amusing films- good thing, or I’d be here all day!- just the ones that make me laugh out loud. Unfortunately, there’s too many of them!!
And I totally agree about “Evil Dead 2”.
“Transylvania 6-5000” had me laughing till it hurt when I first saw it. I watched it again recently, and it wasn’t *that* funny any more. I wonder what makes a person “outgrow” certain films?

The first thing that pops to mind is “Purple Rain” because Shirley and I watched it together a couple of years ago and, even though she didn’t see it before hand, she predicted what all of the dialog was.
I also loved “Little Shop of Horrors” Rick Moranis is hilarious!

“Mars Attacks” was great too. The bit where they have this huge gun pointed at granny’s head… That was a wild film..
Oh, and “The Holy Grail” ranks very high on my funnybone list..
