Isn’t this coolisimo? I’m going to use mine instead of having a longish Category list on my sidebar (though there is a link to the page there). Otherwise the cloud tag/category page can be found with my other pages, just above the header. The present version looks nicer on the page I think; it’s more spread out here.
If you want to make your own tag cloud you can find easy-to-follow instructions over at //engtech’s blog.
Here is Nog’s tag cloud – it’s even more minimalist than mine. π

Oh, and I’ve stopped calling it a ‘cloud tag’ now … don’t know how that happened. π

Call me a denso, but what is it good for?
Is is just a blogpretty, or does it do something, like an smiley would, as a frowning cloud, or a tongue-out cloud? π

Well, it’s basically another way to present your category/tag list. But as this version isn’t dynamic you’d probably want to update it every now and again after adding more posts or more categories.
In the tag cloud the categories with the most posts in them appear in a larger font, which I think looks quite cool. You can also click on the names in the tag cloud to get to that category – so it’s also functional.
Visually, I find it very pleasing. Especially the alphabetical version (rather than the hierarchical one)as to me it looks more interesting to have the larger fonts scattered here and there in the cloud.
You can also have it in a text widget (for example, instead of a category list), but it seems there is some ‘problemita’ with it spilling outside the lines (if that matters to you).
I love mine! π

spacecadette above had a valid question about what is it good for. For one thing, it gives a visitor an idea of what kind of articles the author of the blog typically writes about based on how those articles are tagged by the author.
In addition to plotting the categories as a cloud, one may also want to create a tag cloud for their blog homepage. This will give a tag cloud of not the categories but the content in the latest articles on the blog. It is possible to do this at http://www.tocloud.com/ which allows taking any webpage and converting it into a tag cloud.
