Yet another entry for engtech’s 5 things contest.
- when my body refuses to cooperate
- when I don’t recognise most of the Grammy award winners
- when I can’t remember why I went into the kitchen/bedroom/etc
- when I refer to 25 year olds as ‘kids’
- when I don’t care what my hair looks like or what I’m wearing

1. when my students ask me “are you x’s Mum?”
2. when a friend from school actually is a Nan
3.when I spend twenty minutes looking for my glasses, which are in my hair
4. when I start talking about working experiences from thirty years ago
5 when I consider a cup of tea and a DVD to be good entertainment a Saturday evening

Dragonqueen – I remember doing your No. 3 exactly! It was when I was 25! It has been a long slide downhill for me.

1. When I can remember (clearly) things that happened before work colleagues were born.
2. When my nephew became a parent.
3. When losing a stone or so in weight stopped being a case of eating a bit less and exercising a bit more, and became a majpor undertaking.
4. When I buy some new clothes and suddenly realise that they look like something my father might wear.
5. When a good nights sleep has become one where I only wake up once or twice.

I remember the first time I said ‘well, 20 years ago …’ and was referring to myself as an adult. That gave me pause…

1. When I look at fashions on other women and realise “I could no longer get away with that”
2. When I remember the current fashions the first time around (bat wings and pixie boots anyone?!)
3. When actors and actresses my age are suddenly the mothers and fathers, not the romantic leads anymore
4. Bid Bad Jonny P’s number 3. That has been a real shock!
5. when your comfortable/practical footwear outweighs your ridiculously high and impractical footwear.

1. When all I crave on a Friday night is sleep.
2. When a tv show set in the time of my childhood is referred to as a ‘period drama’.
3. When I start paying attention to my superannuation fund’s balance.
4. When I realise my childhood books are yellowed with age, just like Dad’s.
5. When I can think of five things that make me feel old, with no particular effort.

4. when I look at all the fashions and remember how long ago I through those styles out as old-fashioned (everything old is new again…) 😕
5. When just going down to get the mail means I have to work up the energy.

Re the cool email thingy – it is very US-centric. It won’t allow my .au extension and doesn’t have my ISP 😦 I may have to invent a way of doing it myself 🙂

6. When a junior staff member discovers my age and says, ‘But you look much younger’ – meaning that he does, in fact, think I’m ready for a retirement home. (He’s 22. G’rrr.)

Youth is a very curable condition. It’s only temporary affecting you, luckily.

I know … I often get “but you don’t look 50!” as if there would be something wrong if I did. In terms of veracity it’s kind of on par with “you’re not fat!”. 🙄
