I invented this sandwich for lunch today.
Meaning that I’d never had one exactly like this before. Crusty bread with lots of mustard grain alioli, thinly sliced onions, pan-grilled chicken breasts and arugula. I think it’s going to become a favourite here at casa az.
What are some of your favourite sandwiches?
(and feel free to add any all-time favourite recipes to the 24-hour diner)

I’m not entirely sure what arugula is…

I’m fairly boring with sandwiches actually. I tend to stick to a few tried and tested classics. Now if I was in Spain I don’t see myself ever having anything except the absolutely fantastic range of hams you have over there. Mmmm, jamon Iberico… (drool) Do you have any idea how much it costs over here?
I’m also quite excited by that scrabble board! Shame about the letters… 😦

Hmmm, my sandwiches tend to the ethnic — like quesadillas with whatever happens to be in the fridge (last one was some diced sauteed potato and corn with black beans and cheese) and armenian style rotisserie chicken, in warmed pita bread with sauteed tomatoes and onion.
And the odd ham sandwich!

The price of jamón ibérico over here varies a lot, depending on the type, whether it’s the front or back leg, and also if you buy it by the piece or have it sliced. I think the very good stuff at the brekky bar costs over 100€ a kilo sliced (I’m not sure about the exact price – will check it out next time).
One of my favourite sandwiches is a Reuben, which I haven’t had since I left Canada. I can get all of the ingredients here except corned beef. Any suggestions as to what I might use as a substitute?

az – I’ve seen it for £100 a kilo here, but when I was in spain a few years ago I ate tons of it fairly cheaply (can’t remember how much now).

Well, there are lots of different types – I was talking about this stuff. Most bars and supermarkets sell much cheaper stuff, but it’s still very good. Have you ever had caña de lomo? The really good stuff is even better than jamón (imho).
Ivan! *waves*
Sorry, forgot to reply to your comment. Arugula info here.

Oh, I see – it’s rocket.
Smoked chicken and thinly-sliced gherkin makes an interesting sandwich.

So, how ’bout making your own corned beef? Here’s a recipe. [Not that I’ve ever tried to make it, I just googled ‘how to make corned beef’!]
