I’ve been listening to this CD a lot since I got home from Lisbon. This video is a scene from Wim Wender’s film Lisbon Story, featuring Madredeus and Teresa Salgueiro (who we saw at the Fado concert at the castle). It’s years since I saw the film – I’ll have to look for it on DVD and visit Lisbon all over again. I remember that the cinematography was fabulous and was in part responsible for my desire to go there myself.
lisbon story – the film

Good grief! You mean to say Wim Wenders has made a watchable film again? I sort of gave up on him after the horrible self-indulgence after Paris, Texas. I shall look out for it on satelitte.

Well, Lisbon Story was made in 1994 and I’ve just seen it’s going for almost 20 pounds on Amazon, so oh well never mind. Will have to make do with my photo album and various Madredeus CDs.
I thought all Wim Wenders films were terribly self-indulgent. I quite liked Paris, Texas and the ‘angel’ films. Which ones did you hate, blues?

Easier, I think, to say which ones I do like – Alice in the City, The American Friend, Kings of the Road, Wings of Desire, Paris, Texas and Buena Vista Social Club.
I gave up on him after the shambles of Until the End of the World and Faraway, So Close. And let us never, ever speak of Million Dollat Hotel. I keep meaning to catch End of Violence but never get round to it. And his episode of Martin Scorcese’s rather bloated ‘Blues’ series for HBO was probably the best of a pretty mixed bunch.

Yay! I found the Lisbon Story DVD at Fnac today for just 12 euros! I’m sooo excited. Not sure whether to put it on as soon as Nog gets home from his morning classes or wait until a nice ‘in the mood’ evening with wine and snacks.

Well, congratulations. It’s always a nice feeling when you find something you’ve been looking for for some time at a bargain price. Unless they all come along at once, which is what has just happened to me. Ho-hum.
Tell me, when I stayed the first time, we watched a film set in, I think Bilbao, or certainly that part of the country. I keep meaning to look for it and then forgetting the title. Was it Mondays in the Sun, or something very similar?

Yes, Los Lunes al Sol , set in Vigo, Galicia. Love that film!

Ah, not Bilbao but in that general area.
The very one. I shall go and look for it now. I think my mother would love it as well. Have I asked before whether you’ve seen Bonbon el Perro? A marvelous Argentinian film about a man and his dog. I think you’d like it.

No I haven’t seen it, but I’ve just ordered it from Amazon and so it should be here sometime next week. It looks very good and the dog in the picture looks like an Argentinian Dogo (which has always sounded like a Spanglish joke name to me).
Thanks for the recommendation.
