Every book dusted, every shelf cleaned. And this morning I painted the bit where the Jaguar’s monitor and the printer sit. And Nog even wiped off and organised all my old cassettes and put them back in their little cassette-holder thingy (behind the monitor). And even my desk is relatively tidy for a change. Anyhow, I thought I’d take a photo of this moment for posterity as I’m sure by the end of the week (if not by the end of the day) things will be all cluttered again.
And check out Sunny. That’s his little stool where he demands to sit next to the Alpha Cat while she wastes her life spends her time on sexy beast. He actually prefers to sit on my lap but then I can’t reach the keyboard. So our compromise is the stool, as long as I talk to him a lot and give him a cuddle about every thirty seconds.
Are you trying to make the rest of us look bad? My office is a warren, bookpiles teetering, the shelves groaning from the strain. Your organized domicile is a red flag to someone like me…taunting me…

Hello Cliff – and welcome!
Oh, didn’t mean to make you feel bad. You should have seen how it looked yesterday … or even how it’s going to look tomorrow.
But it was just getting a bit much, you know? Having to blow an inch of dust (mixed with cat hair) off every book we wanted to take from the shelf.
Lots of sneezing went on during the cleaning process and I have to be fair and say that Nog did the bulk of the work (though I was in charge of painting and reorganising).
Anyhow, all that clean space next to the monitor and on my desk with the laptop will soon be covered with unpaid bills and other bits of stuff that gets put there *for now* and ends up staying there for ages.
I don’t mind clutter as such, but seriously dusty clutter can get pretty gross after a couple of years (though Quentin Crisp would disagree with me).

And yes, I’ve had a look at your blog and am thinking of a reply or two I might make – again, nice to meet you.

Sorry–I don’t reply to comments directly on my blog, I figure I’ve had my say, now let readers respond without me rebutting. If I have anything intelligent to say about a comment, I’ll e-mail the correspondent directly. Nice to meet a “Winterpeg” girl, I’ve been to the city a couple of times, visited the “Forks”, hung out at used bookstores…

The “Forks” happened many years after I lived there, Cliff. Though I did visit that new area once with my mother when I went back to see her. So okay, that last well-meaning post I left on your blog will go unanswered I guess.
Never mind, feel free to drop in here and comment anytime.

Two days on, and the clutter has started to accumulate already.
The cat hasn’t moved though.

Well, of course he has, he’s just back in his usual spot. But yeah, the freshly painted bit next to the monitor is already cluttered with stuff … *sigh*.

have you been to Charlotte Otter’s blog lately? She posted a picture of her bookshelves which she and a friend sorted and ordered by the color of the jacket. Actually pretty cool looking. Bet it is hard to find stuff, though.

I’ve never been to Charlotte Otter’s blog, but I’ll go have a look now. It does sound cool. Presumably I’ll find her on your blogroll?
Yes, I can imagine it would make things difficult to find. Mine are in alphabetical order, mostly fiction though there is one non-fiction shelf.
