This is very cool – check out Blurb Book Publishing
Blurb is a publishing company that allows you to publish your own books using their free BookSmart software. You can then print your book to sell, or just for yourself, and you only pay when you actually print the book.
I first saw this over on Ashish’s blog and he had this to say after trying out the software…
Blurb is essentially a book publisher, a marketplace, a community of author’s like you and a company providing tools for said author’s to create books all rolled into one. The highlight of Blurb is of course the free BookSmart software, which is available for free download. You just need to register, which is also free. The software is easy to learn and use, but make sure you do have the resources [which many modern computer’s will fulfill in a jiffy] needed to run the application. I might say that I barely meet the minimum requirements when it comes to memory but I had no problem. As for the creation process, a very helpful wizard will get you making your book before long.
Maybe I’ll dust off that old unfinished novel of mine (once again) and give this a go . . .

Wow, I wondered if there were things like that on the Internet. Maybe I should print off some of my short stories instead of letting them wallow on FictionPress…

Unfinished novel? Do tell me if you ever make it. lol.

Hi Cody, and welcome! 🙂
I’ve never heard of FictionPress – will have to check that out too.
Yes, Ashish, quite unfinished and although it’s probably best to leave it that way I may end up having another bash at it. I also like the idea of photo albums – could make nice Christmas presents.

Cool idea. I have a novel or two to dust off, too. Or, I could just make a book of my really bad poetry…Or, maybe not.

Just read the fine print before you put any of your work out there — you don’t want them keeping copies, and down the road you’re publishing your never-before-published stories for real, and someone comes out of the woodwork to say “Oh, that’s not original, it’s here!” (or some other nightmarish thing)
There are a number of these self-publishing enterprises on the internet — as with anything, caveat emptor.

I’m also intrigued by this “unfinished novel” of which you speak.

That’s a good point, Lori. Now I’m nervous about trying it.
As for the “unfinished novel”, most likely it’s going to stay unfinished because I’m spending far too much time these days making new blogs. 🙂

Get on with the novel. That’s what I keep telling Metro — the time he spends writing pithy blog posts could be spent in the slogging through something publishable!!
Plus, he’s got some novels already written, just need to be fixed up…he just needs to DO IT! 🙂

Hmmm… I remember saying something similar to Metro recently. And I will take this advice to heart once I’m not spending so much time online doing other things. Thanks for the kick in the butt, Lori.
Thing is, I do reckon my novel is a piece of crap as it stands … not sure if reworking it is going to make it much better. But what I’m really not sure about is if I have the ‘whatever’ to make it something better.
