IE screens on the left, Firefox on the right, all using medium/normal text size.
Further to the previous post … this is getting a bit confusing but it seems the problem is using IE with a widescreen (I think nursemyra also noticed this on FFE’s blog). Since I’ve always used Firefox for my blogs I’ve never seen any difference, including when I switched from the Jag’s 15″ desktop screen to SB’s 17″ widescreen. And the same when I’ve used Nog’s laptop as I’ve never used IE for the blogs. But it seems that on IE things get all screwed up on the widescreen. I’m assuming that John’s problem with the text overlapping is because he is using a larger text size (though I don’t know this for sure).
It’s quite frustrating to discover that the layout on casa az is so unstable, especially when I take so much care with how I set it all up. Heck, since we can’t justify text here on WordPress I’ll even re-write text so that the margins look more even. And now I find out that everyone is seeing the blog totally differently.
So it seems my options are to either change to a theme that doesn’t go wonky on IE, or else maybe put up a notice (perhaps a static front page?) that informs people that the blog is best viewed on Firefox with normal-sized text. What do you think I should do? I’m not even sure if it’s possible to find a theme that works properly on all browser/screen variables. And besides, I really like this theme . . .
At home I use firefox, and I think that there I don’t lose the sidebar, but I do sometimes get issues with text overlapping.
In IE, as I think I said before, what seems to govern it is the “width” of the graphic that you choose to go with the post. If it is one like above, then the sidebar shoots to the bottom. If it is more of a thumbnail, like the Terry Pratchett one, then all is well. I can’t say for sure whether the issue is limited to whatever is the top posting on the page, or all the way down.
Given the way different browsers “work”, I think you will struggle to get it looking the same (or even very similar) in all of them 😦

So, do you use a larger text size on firefox at home, Johnny?
It’s odd that the graphic would affect the sidebar as the maximum size this theme will take is about 480 (before it gets cut off) and so I never go larger than that.
The one above, that shoots the sidebar to the bottom for you, are two thumbnails that I’ve centred … they don’t even go as far out as the text does.
Boy this is frustrating! But thanks for your input. I don’t really expect to find a solution that will make my page appear the same to everybody, but you know, losing the sidebar is kinda serious . . .

Hmm – think I just use “normal” here at home – I don’t remember ever having changed it.
Garland looks OK though – as you say, shame about the tiles.

Coolisimo looking site, Dan – thanks! I’ll check it out tomorrow. Yesterday I saw that the clothing website was all wonky on someone else’s computer …
Is the sidebar working for you now, Johnny?

Yep – like a charm thanks

Bad news on the display front.
When I look at the Casa Az homepage, the sidebar starts at the top – with Fuel my blog – then goes down to Visitations and Meta, then there is a gap until after the bottom post, before – Hola, the Sun, Sevilla, recent comments etc.

Well … gaaaaaa!!!
Yeah, just tried it out on IE and it does the same for me, Johnny. Weird, because it wasn’t doing it before. I wonder if it has anything to do with the snowflakes… dammit!

Could be, I suppose

Nah, I checked and it’s got nothing to do with the snowflakes, and that’s the only change I’ve made here since I started using this theme and it was working bloody fine on IE!!!
Why the hell does anybody use IE anyhow?

Good question – I wouldn’t through choice – it is the only browser allowed at w*rk though. Which is where I nominally am at the moment 😉
